World Business Lenders (WBL) provides general purpose short-term real estate collateralized commercial loans to a broad customer base comprised of small and medium sized businesses throughout the United States that lack access to traditional funding. WBL services its loan portfolio and loan portfolios for third parties, specializing in the management of non-performing loan pools and REO.

Overview

The Asset Resolution Counsel is responsible for leading the legal strategy, portfolio management, and resolution efforts for a portfolio of non-performing commercial loans secured primarily by real estate. This role serves as a strategic business partner responsible for maximizing recoveries while minimizing legal risk, loss severity, and resolution timelines.

Working collaboratively with internal stakeholders, outside counsel, loan servicing teams, and borrowers, the Asset Resolution Counsel develops and executes resolution strategies through negotiation, restructuring, litigation, foreclosure, bankruptcy, receivership, REO disposition, and other loss mitigation initiatives.

This position requires sound legal judgment, strong financial and analytical skills, and the ability to balance business objectives with legal and regulatory compliance.

Essential Functions:

Manage and monitor a non-performing real estate collateralized commercial loan portfolio, including REO, toward most effective and efficient resolution

Supervise, train and develop Asset Resolution Department staff

Conduct proactive and effective portfolio management in accordance with established performance standards

Monitor and manage commercial litigation/bankruptcy/foreclosure activities, functions and deadlines

Direct/monitor/liaise with in-house and outside attorneys, collection agencies and other vendors that support the loss mitigation effort

Interact with customers and their counsel

Negotiate and propose settlement agreements and bidding instructions

Monitor loss mitigation workout performance and loss severity trends

Implement and communicate loss mitigation decisions

Maintain delinquency and loss mitigation reporting, including trend analysis and assessment

Conduct comprehensive analysis of debtors' financial position, credit status, personal background, and historical payment performance

Facilitate negotiation and conflict resolution

Perform extensive quarterly review of portfolio being managed to confirm or reassess recovery estimates

Monitor related expenses (taxes, maintenance, utilities, fees, etc.) and timely propose protective advances

Participate in budget preparation for the Asset Resolution Department.

Other projects and duties as assigned.

Requirements

Education:

Law degree (from a nationally accredited U.S. law school is preferred).

Experience:

Experience working in commercial litigation, bankruptcy, foreclosure, and real estate loss mitigation

Experience successfully managing non-performing loan (NPL) pools and REO portfolios

Experience supervising, developing, and mentoring case management staff

Litigation experience and familiarity with litigation management tools

Experience working for a U.S.-based company.

Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel (pivot tables, formulas, data analysis, and reporting), Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

Experience working with loan servicing systems, case management platforms, or asset management software used to administer commercial loan portfolios.

Ability to prepare and evaluate:

Recovery analyses

Working knowledge of PACER, state and federal court docket systems, Secretary of State business entity databases, UCC filing systems, county land records, and tax assessor websites.

Experience utilizing business intelligence and reporting tools to monitor portfolio performance, recovery trends, legal spend, and key performance indicators (KPIs).

Familiarity with eDiscovery, electronic document management systems, and secure document sharing platforms.

Experience working with Monday.com, Salesforce, SharePoint, or similar workflow/project management systems is preferred.

Ability to leverage AI-assisted legal research, document review, contract analysis, and productivity tools (such as Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT Enterprise, Westlaw Precision AI, or Lexis+ AI) while maintaining attorney judgment and confidentiality.

Strong understanding of data security, confidentiality, and regulatory requirements applicable to commercial lending and legal operations.

Work Requirements

Must be available to work Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM Eastern Time.

Must have a stable internet connection and professional remote working setup.
