The People Business Partner is a senior-level strategic advisor responsible for shaping and executing people strategies that enable business performance, workforce transformation, leadership effectiveness, culture, and employee experience. Supporting leaders across Optum Technology, this role partners with senior leaders to translate business and technology priorities into forward-looking workforce strategies that blend human capability, digital enablement, and AI-driven insights. Operating at technology speed with a tech mindset and a people-first lens, you will engage and lead complex, cross-functional projects designed to build skills and capabilities for today and tomorrow.

In this enterprise-impacting role, you will function as a leadership coach and trusted advisor to help anticipate emerging workforce needs, address capability gaps, strengthen leadership pipelines, and drive measurable outcomes aligned to enterprise priorities. Additionally, the People Business Partner brings a digital mindset to every aspect of the role, applying generative AI and emerging technologies to workforce decisions, guiding AI adoption and role redesign, and using advanced analytics to drive data-informed talent strategies. To be successful, you must thrive in rapid pivots, navigate ambiguity with confidence, and scale solutions ahead of demand within a complex, matrixed environment.

You'll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely * from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week.

Primary Responsibilities:

Strategic Partnership and Business Impact: Partner as a senior-level strategic advisor with senior leaders across Optum Technology to translate business priorities into forward-looking workforce and people strategies, holding leaders accountable through transparent, "say = do" partnership.

Workforce Strategy and Organization Effectiveness: Develop forward-looking workforce strategies by assessing the current state of talent, performing skill gap analyses, and evaluating AI automation impacts to blend human capability with digital enablement and AI-driven insights.

Enterprise AI Leadership and Adoption: Integrate enterprise-approved AI tools into talent strategies, set AI-focused development goals, and align organizational hiring with AI competencies to actively remove barriers and accelerate technology adoption.

Ethical AI and Compliance: Champion the ethical use of AI across the workforce lifecycle, embedding transparency, fairness, and accountability throughout the entire AI lifecycle.

Data-Driven Insights: Translate complex data sets, trends, and advanced analytics into clear, actionable talent and business insights to solve complex organizational challenges and drive measurable outcomes.

Operating Model and Global Planning: Lead complex organization design, operating model decisions, and global workforce planning initiatives to ensure solutions are scalable, inclusive by design, and aligned to enterprise priorities.

Transformation and Change Leadership: Lead complex transformation and change management initiatives with enterprise impact, driving adoption through clear planning, accountability, and resilience to change while mitigating business disruption.

Talent Strategy and Leadership Effectiveness: Identify and address critical workforce capability gaps to strengthen the leadership bench, build succession pipelines, and ensure equitable, forward-looking talent decisions.

Executive Coaching and Influence: Provide executive coaching to senior leaders, challenging behaviors and decisions to improve accountability, performance, and leadership impact, enabling leaders to effectively navigate change and team performance.

Business Value Creation: Strategically leverage AI, automation, and digital workforce strategies to solve business problems, unlock new growth opportunities, and deliver tangible financial and operational value

Required Qualifications:

10+ years of Human Resources (People Team) or strategic business partnership experience in a complex, global matrixed organization

5+ years of experience developing talent strategies, executing organizational design, and facilitating large-scale workforce transformations

3+ years of experience applying data, advanced analytics, and trends to influence senior leadership decisions and shape business outcomes

Demonstrated fluency with emerging technologies, generative AI tools, or analytical platforms applied to workforce planning or talent strategy

Experience providing executive coaching and consulting to senior leadership teams

Ability to occasionally/periodically travel

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience partnering with executive leaders in highly complex, technology-driven environments

Experience incorporating AI, automation, or digital workforce strategies into measurable talent and business outcomes

Experience supporting global teams, enterprise functions, and large-scale expansion or transformation efforts

Experience with M&A Integration, corporate development, or enterprise service environments

Demonstrated resourcefulness in setting priorities, working around obstacles, and driving for results

Ability to operate at technology speed - thriving in ambiguous, fast-moving environments while driving toward clarity, decisions, and scalable solutions for self and others

Proven clear, concise, and compelling written and verbal communication and executive influencing skills

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you'll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $134,600 to $230,800 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
