Job Description Summary

We are seeking a Development Engineer to support the development, qualification, and introduction of new MRI gradient coils. This role is responsible for introducing new products into the gradient engineering build cells, improving existing products to enhance performance, reliability, manufacturability, and cost, and providing technical support across global MRI manufacturing operations.

The Development Engineer will work closely with the rest of the gradient engineering team to develop robust, high-quality, and cost-effective solutions that meet product and program objectives.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

Develop and maintain engineering work instructions and in-process test procedures for MRI gradient coil manufacturing and assembly.

Serve as the technical liaison between gradient coil design engineering and manufacturing operations.

Support design transfer activities and provide subject matter expertise during product introduction and manufacturing ramp-up.

Lead and participate in technical reviews, program meetings, and cross-functional project teams.

Communicate project status, technical findings, risks, and achievements to stakeholders and leadership.

Prepare technical reports related to research and development activities, product investigations, and manufacturing or field issues.

Support manufacturing operations at global MRI sites and provide technical support for the installed product base.

Evaluate and implement new manufacturing technologies and processes, including:

Coil assembly methods

Heavy wire winding

Brazing and soldering processes

Vacuum and pressure potting systems

Room-temperature and elevated-temperature resin processes

Participate throughout the product lifecycle, from concept development and specification definition through production launch and sustaining engineering support.

Drive initiatives focused on product safety, quality improvement, cycle-time reduction, manufacturability, reliability, and cost optimization.

Ensure compliance with GE HealthCare quality systems, safety requirements, and regulatory standards.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Physics, or a related technical discipline from an accredited university or college (or a high school diploma / GED with at least 6 years of experience)

1+ year of experience in manufacturing, product development, or engineering.

Strong technical writing ability

Cross functional work experience

Desired Characteristics

2+ years of experience developing and manufacturing complex electro-mechanical or fabricated assemblies.

Knowledge of manufacturing processes, assembly technologies, materials engineering, and production methods.

Hands-on experience with mechanical or electrical hardware assemblies, fixtures, and tooling.

Experience specifying, developing, or designing large-scale manufacturing tooling and equipment.

Direct experience with the design, development, or manufacture of electromagnetic resin-impregnated coils.

Understanding of vacuum impregnation processes and associated equipment.

Familiarity with wet winding processes and fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) tube manufacturing.

Experience with numerical analysis, simulation, or optimization tools.

Strong analytical and statistical problem-solving skills.

Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced development environment.

Demonstrated leadership, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to generate innovative technical solutions and drive continuous improvement.

Proven ability to work effectively within cross-functional and multidisciplinary teams.
