About the role

We are seeking a remote contractor to join our team as a Unmanned Aerial Systems Controls/Simulation Engineer. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in developing and implementing simulation models that support various projects, particularly in the defense sector. This position requires a strong understanding of simulation methodologies, along with the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team. The UAS engineer will contribute to projects that involve aviation technologies and adhere to Federal Aviation Regulations, ensuring high-quality outcomes that meet client specifications. This is a contract position with possibility of contract extension. All work is remote and work can be done on a flexible schedule, however the candidate must be available for calls and meetings during the Eastern Standard Time hours and complete tasks by deadlines. Candidates must be a US Citizen.

Pay range: $70-$100/hour based on experience. Health insurance and benefits are NOT provided.

Required Qualifications

US Citizen

Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering / Controls

Fundamental knowledge and understanding of flight dynamics

Fundamental knowledge and understanding of classical controls and system identification

Basic knowledge of Ardupilot and/or PX4 flight controller codebase

3+ years of experience in the design and analysis of UAS controllers/autopilots

1.5+ yrs experience using MATLAB and Simulink (Project teams count as experience)

Strong working Python knowledge

Ability to quickly adapt to changing priorities

Excellent communication skills, verbal and written. Quick response times required. Issues with communication are subject to contract termination.

Proficient in English

Preferred Qualifications

Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering with a focus in Guidance, Navigation, and Controls

Knowledgeable in object-oriented coding, specifically C++

Proficient with revision control tools (Git, Bitbucket)

Dynamic system modeling of fixed-wing and rotorcraft UAS

Guidance algorithm synthesis, implementation, and analysis

Pay: $70.00 - $100.00 per hour
