About the role

About the role

Balfour Beatty is delivering some of the UK's most significant and complex infrastructure projects, and we're looking for an experienced Project Controls Manager to join our Power Transmission & Distribution business.

This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in the successful delivery of a major portfolio of projects, driving excellence across planning, cost, risk, reporting and performance management. You'll provide valuable insight to senior leaders, helping them make informed decisions and ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently and predictably.

Whilst our preference is for candidates to be based from either our Leeds or Middlesbrough offices, we're keen to hear from talented individuals located anywhere in the UK.

This role supports projects across a national portfolio, so regular travel to project and stakeholder locations is an integral part of the position. In return, you'll benefit from flexible and hybrid working arrangements, with the opportunity to work from home, one of our offices, and project sites across the country.

What you'll be doing

Leadership & Strategy

Lead the project controls function across a portfolio of major infrastructure projects.

Establish governance frameworks, standards and best practice across planning, cost, risk and reporting.

Support and develop project controls teams to drive high performance.

Champion a culture of continuous improvement and data-driven decision making.

Integrated Performance Management

Own and maintain integrated project baselines across scope, schedule, cost and risk.

Ensure accurate and consistent portfolio-level reporting.

Provide insight into project performance, trends, opportunities and risks.

Reporting & Analytics

Develop standardised and automated reporting solutions.

Drive the production of accurate, timely and reliable project controls data.

Support executive-level reporting and dashboard development.

Governance & Assurance

Ensure compliance with project controls standards, business processes and contractual requirements.

Provide assurance that project data is accurate, consistent and auditable.

Support governance reviews and performance assurance activities.

Stakeholder Management & Business Partnering

Partner with Project Directors, Programme Managers and senior business leaders.

Influence key decisions across delivery and operational teams.

Build strong relationships with clients, supply chain partners and other stakeholders.

Systems & Continuous Improvement

Drive the adoption of industry-leading tools and systems.

Identify opportunities for innovation and process improvement.

Benchmark performance and implement best practice across the portfolio.

Who we're looking for

Skills & Capabilities

Strong experience across project controls disciplines including planning, cost, risk and reporting.

Experience supporting large-scale programmes or multi-project portfolios.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a data-driven approach.

Excellent communication, stakeholder management and influencing skills.

Commercial awareness and business acumen.

Experience leading teams and driving performance improvements.

Knowledge

Strong understanding of project controls, programme management and performance reporting best practice.

Knowledge of governance frameworks, reporting systems and project delivery methodologies.

Experience within infrastructure, utilities, construction or engineering environments.

Experience

Significant experience within project controls on complex infrastructure or construction projects.

Proven ability to deliver performance improvements and drive efficiencies.

Experience working collaboratively with senior stakeholders, clients and delivery teams.

Demonstrable success in implementing continuous improvement initiatives.
