Position Overview:

The Business Development Manager is responsible for identifying, pursuing and generating new business opportunities and expanding client relationships that support the company's strategic priorities in engineering, testing and environmental services. This role assists with driving revenue growth by acquiring new clients, strengthening strategic partnerships and increasing the branch's presence across both public and private sectors.

Working collaboratively with operations, marketing and technical teams, the Business Development Manager leverages UES' specialized expertise to build strategic relationships, shape pursuits and support long-term growth initiatives while identifying prospects, cultivating leads, and managing the end-to-end sales processes.

Responsibilities:

Lead strategic business development initiatives across key markets, including environmental engineering, geotechnical services, construction support and infrastructure consulting, to achieve branch growth and revenue objectives.

Identify, develop, and pursue new business opportunities through proactive prospecting, networking, market research, referrals and strategic client engagement.

Build, strengthen, and maintain relationships with new and existing clients to drive repeat business, service offerings, and cultivate referral opportunities.

Execute sales goals set by the Branch Manager and Regional leadership and use these as guidelines for daily sales activities while collaborating with sales, marketing, operations and technical teams to support business development initiatives.

Generate profitable revenue by identifying qualified leads, cross-selling and add-on opportunities while delivering solutions that meet company margin objectives.

Manage a robust sales pipeline using the company's CRM, track pursuit activities, maintain accurate revenue forecasts, and utilize sales reporting and planning tools to prioritize business development efforts.

Ensure lead times and communication quality are maintained to control and plan workflows effectively.

Coordinate the preparation, submission and follow-up of proposals, including responses to Requests for Proposals (RFPs), Requests for Qualifications (RFQs), and vendor application packages.

Maintain consistent communication with clients and internal teams to ensure responsiveness, manage lead times, and support effective project planning and workflow coordination.

Assist and attend selected marketing and networking events both during the day and occasionally in the evenings and/or on weekends.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree and 5+ years of experience in a marketing discipline (or equal combination).

Ability to foster and maintain good relationships at all levels, with prior supervisory experience.

Comfort with industry technologies, as well as standard office and collaboration software.

Demonstrated business acumen and the ability to deliver and communicate goals, programs, and solutions.

Highly adaptable with exceptional listening, reading, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Business, Engineering, Environmental Science or related field.

Progressive business development experience, preferably in the A/E/C, environmental consulting or infrastructure industry.

Proven track record of building client relationships and securing contracts with public agencies, private sector clients, or utility/infrastructure owners.

Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office and Teams with the ability to learn additional software systems.

Experience with CRM platforms and business development reporting tools.

Excellent interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills.

Ability to travel regularly to client sites and industry events.

Travel Requirements:

This position requires regular travel, up to 50% of the time, to support business objectives and client engagements.

Travel may be both scheduled and on short notice, depending on project needs.

Destinations typically include job sites, field locations, or regional offices, where work may be conducted in outdoor or operational environments.

Adherence to all company safety protocols and use of PPE is required during travel and on-site work.

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

This position operates in a hybrid work environment, requiring flexibility to work effectively from both a professional office and work site setting.

On-Site Office Requirements:

Work is performed at a desk for extended periods using a computer, phone, and standard office equipment in a climate-controlled office environment.

Regular in-person communication with team members, clients, and stakeholders is required.

Physical demands may include sitting for long durations, occasional standing, walking, bending, and lifting of materials up to 15 pounds.

Field Environment:

Work at outdoor sites including wetlands, forests, grasslands, construction zones, and undeveloped land.

Travel on foot across uneven, rugged, or obstructed terrain, sometimes in areas inaccessible by vehicle.

Exposure to varying weather conditions including heat, cold, humidity, rain or sun.

Possible presence of insects, animals, or natural and man-made hazards in field environments.
