Why does the job exist?

The Associate Human Resources Generalist independently administers and processes a variety of human resources functions and personnel transactions while providing technical guidance and interpretation of federal and state employment laws, State Personnel Board rules and regulations, and agency policies to employees and management. This position is responsible for basic payroll administration and payroll support functions. The Associate Human Resources Generalist maintains Human Resources records in compliance with records retention requirements, assists with special projects, and provides administrative support to Human Resources operations. This position performs a variety of assignments that contribute to the efficient operation and strategic objectives of the Workers' Compensation Administration.

Assist with recruitment, hiring, on boarding, and routine employee life cycle activities. Conduct payroll and HR audits to ensure accuracy, compliance, and proper internal controls. Respond to routine HR inquiries, maintain confidential personnel records, support special projects, and escalate complex or sensitive human resources matters to the Human Resources Executive Manager for guidance and resolution.

Minimum Qualification

Associate degree in any field. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling two (2) years may substitute for the required education.

Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Drivers License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending, lifting and reaching may be required. Ability to complete assignments with a high level of accuracy within strict time constraints. Frequent use of office machine and equipment. Must be able to lift 25-30 lbs. Occasional travel may be required. Experience using Microsoft Office applications are preferred.
