Drupal Frontend Engineer (Consultant, Engineering & Technical Services)

At Fearless, the Consultant, Engineering & Technical Services collaborates with cross-functional Agile teams to architect, implement, and maintain modern, high-performing digital experiences for a federal health care platform serving approximately 11 million monthly users. Leveraging advanced Drupal frontend expertise - including component-based architecture and modular design system implementation - this role optimizes public access to critical health care services while bridging technical execution and user-centered delivery.

As a subject-matter expert, the successful candidate works independently to establish and uphold team standards for quality, performance, and WCAG accessibility. This position requires candidates to obtain and maintain a federal Public Trust clearance and satisfy all CMS residency requirements.

This Consultant collaborates with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality, secure, and maintainable systems across all stages of the software and data lifecycle. This role is instrumental in delivering secure, efficient, and scalable solutions that directly impact the success of projects, teams, and organizational goals. This role will possess and/or develop the skills to be able to span the domains of software development, data engineering, infrastructure automation, information assurance, and AI/ML integration at a practical application level of proficiency . This Consultant role will work on projects that allow them to contribute across the entire technology stack - software, infrastructure, data, AI, and security - to ensure quality, speed, and innovation in delivery.

Place of Performance & Travel Requirements

While this role is primarily remote, candidates must meet CMS residency requirements.

Mandatory technical assessment: As part of the recruitment workflow, engineering candidates are required to perform a CivicActions (Partner Lead) take-home exercise. This specialized evaluation supersedes Test Gorilla assessments.

Your Responsibilities in this Role:

Apply a modular, component-based approach to extend and implement design systems within Drupal themes using tools like Storybook and Single Directory Components (SDC)

Architect and write secure, performant, well-documented JavaScript code that adheres to established coding standards

Implement and uphold Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) across all digital touchpoints

Develop and maintain PostCSS workflows and apply modern styling practices within Drupal theme architecture

Integrate Web Components into Drupal themes

Write integration and end-to-end tests (e.g., Cypress) to ensure code quality, reliability, and regression coverage

Use JavaScript and PHP debugging tools to accelerate development workflows and enhance code quality

Support backend development tasks such as basic module development and Drupal configuration management

Develop code collaboratively within Git repositories using forks, branching workflows, and conflict resolution best practices

Balance multiple projects and products that share codebases, and participate in Agile ceremonies

Work Experience

Project Skill and Experience Requirements

5+ years of web development experience

Demonstrated experience with Drupal 10 and/or Drupal 11 frontend development

Strong familiarity with modern Drupal frontend architectures, including Single Directory Components (SDC) and Drupal's JavaScript frameworks

Comfortable integrating Web Components in Drupal themes

Strong proficiency in Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG)

Strong familiarity with PostCSS workflows and modern styling practices

Experience modifying React-based apps (or comparable JS frameworks) and integrating into Drupal

Comfortable supporting backend development tasks such as Drupal configuration management

Experience writing Cypress end-to-end tests to ensure code quality and reliability

Experience developing code collaboratively within Git repositories using forks, branching workflows, and conflict resolution

Experience with Agile workflows and ceremonies

Drupal.org username required

Ability to obtain and maintain Public Trust clearance

Extensive React development experience and experience with progressively decoupled Drupal architectures

Examples of community-contributed (preferred) or custom Drupal 10/11 code

Experience leveraging AI-powered development tools to accelerate prototyping and improve code quality through structured, collaborative workflows with strong verification and security habits

Required Level of Proficiency:

Physical Requirements:

Ability to sit for extended periods while working on a computer or during meetings.

Must be able to travel occasionally to client sites or company meetings, which may involve driving or flying.

Ability to communicate effectively via phone, email, and in-person, requiring clear speech, listening, and written communication skills.

Ability to move within an office environment, including reaching for files, using office equipment, and occasional light lifting (up to 10 pounds).

The salary range for this position is:

Minimum Salary: $96,132

Salary Midpoint: $124,971

Maximum Salary: $162,462

Hiring Range for Role: $96,132 - $132,500

This position is eligible for a discretionary bonus based on individual and company performance criteria.
