Senior QA Automation Engineer (Playwright + TypeScript + API Automation)

Experience Required

5+ years of QA Automation experience

3+ years of hands-on experience with Playwright and TypeScript

Proven experience in API Testing and Automation

Mandatory Skills

Strong hands-on experience with Playwright

Strong programming expertise in TypeScript

Strong experience in API Testing and Automation

Experience automating REST APIs using tools/frameworks such as Playwright API Testing, Postman/Newman, REST Assured, or equivalent

Experience validating API contracts, request/response payloads, authentication mechanisms, and service integrations

Experience creating automation frameworks from scratch

Experience maintaining and enhancing existing automation frameworks

Strong Web UI automation expertise

Test design, execution, debugging, and troubleshooting skills

Git-based source control experience

CI/CD integration experience (Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or equivalent)

Knowledge of automation reporting and dashboarding solutions

Working knowledge of JSON, API specifications, and integration testing concepts

Role Summary

We are seeking an experienced Senior QA Automation Engineer who can take end-to-end ownership of test automation initiatives. The ideal candidate will rapidly understand existing automation frameworks and assets, identify automation gaps, and design, build, and execute scalable automation solutions across both UI and API layers.

This role requires a proactive, self-driven professional who can work independently, collaborate effectively with stakeholders, and deliver measurable outcomes during discovery, planning, and execution phases.

Key Responsibilities

1. Automation Strategy & Framework Ownership

Understand application functionality and business workflows from a functional perspective.

Define and implement an automation strategy leveraging Playwright, TypeScript, and API automation frameworks.

Analyse, assess, and enhance existing automation frameworks, scripts, and test assets.

Stabilise and optimise existing automation solutions across UI and API layers.

Design and build robust automation frameworks from scratch where required.

Establish automation standards, coding guidelines, and best practices.

Own the automation roadmap and execution strategy for assigned workstreams.

2. Test Automation Development

Develop, maintain, and execute automated test scripts using Playwright and TypeScript.

Design and implement API automation tests for RESTful and integrated services.

Automate end-to-end business workflows across web applications and backend services.

Create and maintain:

Smoke Test Suites

Regression Test Suites

Critical Business Flow Test Packs

API Regression Test Suites

Ensure automation solutions are scalable, reusable, and maintainable.

Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines.

Validate service integrations, contracts, and API responses.

3. Automation Assessment & Planning

Review existing application landscapes and automation assets.

Assess:

Framework maturity

Automation coverage

Technical debt

Identify automation gaps, risks, bottlenecks, and dependencies.

Document current-state findings and recommendations.

Define automation priorities and roadmap.

Break down work into actionable tasks and user stories.

Provide effort estimations and execution plans.

4. Quality Engineering

Collaborate with Business Analysts, Developers, Product Owners, and SMEs.

Analyse requirements and business workflows.

Identify business processes suitable for UI and API automation.

Ensure comprehensive test coverage for critical business functions and integrations.

Analyse test results and support defect identification and resolution.

Validate functional, integration, and service-level quality requirements.

5. Stakeholder Management & Collaboration

Maintain proactive communication with project stakeholders.

Participate in:

Sprint planning

Daily stand-ups

Status reporting

Sprint reviews and retrospectives

Technical discussions

Provide regular updates regarding:

Progress

Risks

Blockers

Automation outcomes

Collaborate effectively within cross-functional teams while owning deliverables.

6. Delivery Ownership

Take complete ownership of automation deliverables from analysis through implementation.

Drive tasks to completion with minimal supervision.

Ensure timely delivery whilst maintaining defined quality objectives.

Function as a hands-on contributor rather than a coordination-focused resource.
