Job Description
The Business Development (BD) Director is responsible for creating and executing a strategic business development plan that aligns with AAMSI’s technical capabilities and corporate growth goals. This role focuses on driving sustainable revenue through new business capture, expansion of internal capabilities via the Source Approval Request (SAR) process and developing key relationships within the U.S. Government (USG), Department of Defense (DoD), foreign militaries, and aerospace sectors.
The ideal candidate brings deep knowledge of government procurement, aerospace and defense sustainment, and is effective working cross-functionally with internal teams and external stakeholders. This position requires both strategic thinking and tactical execution to advance AAMSI’s market position and long-term objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
Identify and pursue new business opportunities across all profit centers, including SAR programs, licensing opportunities, and targeted OEM and government engagements.
Maintain strong customer relationships with DoD agencies, defense contractors, and OEMs; serve as a key point of contact for new and ongoing programs.
Conduct technical assessments to ensure new opportunities align with AAMSI’s key capabilities.
Identify and source SAR (Source Approval Request) opportunities to AAMSI’s capability portfolio and drive long-term business with DLA and other U.S. military branches.
Lead proposal development and pricing strategy with technical, compliance, legal, and finance teams to ensure competitive and executable offers.
Lead AAMSI’s Sales and Customer Service team, ensuring alignment with business development goals and high levels of customer satisfaction.
Negotiate contract terms and ensure alignment with regulatory and customer requirements.
Oversee contract execution across AAMSI by coordinating closely with Engineering, Operations, and Quality to ensure internal readiness, alignment, and successful delivery.
Represent AAMSI at trade shows and industry events to promote capabilities and drive pipeline growth.
Deliver market intelligence on competitors, pricing, and trends to support strategic planning and bid competitiveness.
Lead weekly sales/BD meetings to report on pipeline status, align resources, and troubleshoot roadblocks.
Ensure compliance with U.S. Government regulations and acquisition policies in all BD activities
Preferred Qualifications:
10+ years of relevant experience in aerospace, defense, or military business development roles.
Experience in aircraft electronics and avionics, including new and legacy component manufacture and sustainment, with additional understanding of hydraulic and structural systems.
Familiarity with government forecasting, bidding systems, and acquisition regulations.
High sense of urgency, self-motivation, and a goal-oriented mindset.
Ability to communicate effectively across all levels and with cross-functional teams.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook); ability to quickly learn and navigate BD tools and databases.
Education/Experience/Other Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in business, Engineering, Aerospace, or a related field (advanced degree preferred)
U.S. citizenship is required.
Pre-employment drug screening and background check required.
Occasional travel within the U.S. and internationally will be required as part of the role.
