BIM Software Engineer
Skills
About the role
What to Expect
We’re hiring a BIM Software Engineer to join a small team building production applications, automation, and AI-powered tools for Revit and the broader BIM ecosystem. You’ll ship software that integrates with real project models, turns repetitive modeling and coordination work into reliable automation, and uses AI to help teams query data, catch issues, and move projects forward.
What sets this role apart is domain depth: understanding how models are structured, where the source of truth lives (elements, families, parameters, schedules, linked data), and what a good outcome looks like for architects, engineers, and BIM specialists. You’ll combine that knowledge with modern software engineering, the Revit API, LLMs, and agent systems to build tools people can trust during live project work. Background in AEC, construction tech, digital delivery, or multi-platform coordination is a plus.
What You'll Do
Design, build, and ship production applications, automation, and AI tools that help BIM and design teams model, coordinate, and deliver faster
Build and maintain Revit API integrations and add-ins that run reliably on real project models
Develop deep understanding of Revit workflows, model standards, and delivery processes; identify the authoritative source of truth for every data input
Build LLM-powered agents and assistants that reason over BIM data to support querying, issue diagnosis, standards enforcement, and design decisions
Design the AI harness around the model, tool definitions, retrieval pipelines, context assembly, prompts/instructions, and guardrails, so outputs are grounded, verifiable, and safe to act on
Evaluate AI behavior with eval sets and automated graders that measure quality and catch regressions before ship
Design data models and workflows around elements, parameters, families, views, sheets, and linked documentation; connect BIM data to SQL, document stores, model repositories, and the wider delivery stack
Own work end to end: requirements with BIM managers and discipline leads, architecture, implementation, testing, and production deployment
Partner closely with architects, engineers, and product partners so tools solve real problems and earn user trust
Uphold strong engineering practices (version control, code review, CI/CD, monitoring, logging) and continuously improve performance, reliability, and usability as models, standards, and AI capabilities evolve
What You'll Bring
Strong software engineering fundamentals and a track record of shipping and maintaining production systems, including version control, code reviews, CI/CD, monitoring, and logging
Proficiency in one or more of C#, Python, or JavaScript/TypeScript (including React or Angular for user-facing apps), with the ability to pick up others as needed
Hands-on experience with the Revit API and/or BIM automation (add-ins, transactions, parameters, model QA, sheet/view generation, data extraction, standards enforcement) is a plus; Dynamo, pyRevit, or similar is valued when you know when native API code is the better path
Practical LLM experience: prompt engineering, harness design, RAG, and agent development with a modern framework (e.g., Google ADK, LangGraph, or similar)
Judgment for when AI output is correct and trustworthy, plus rigor to measure it with structured evaluations; experience applying AI/ML to AEC problems (model checking, generative layout, clash classification, document extraction) is a plus
Experience with data systems as needed (Postgres/MySQL, vector stores, file/document stores, or APIs that connect BIM data to other platforms), including embedding-based retrieval for technical content
Familiarity with BIM concepts and tools (Revit, shared parameters, worksharing, linked models, IFC, interoperability, coordination practices); Autodesk Platform Services, Design Automation, or cloud BIM workflows is a plus
