ICT Business Analyst

Join Museums of History NSW as an ICT Business Analyst and help turn business needs into impactful digital solutions. Working across the organisation, you'll analyse processes, identify improvement opportunities and partner with stakeholders to deliver technology solutions that enhance service delivery, efficiency and user experience. You'll play a key role in shaping business requirements, supporting decision-making and driving ICT-enabled change that helps achieve MHNSW's strategic goals.

What the opportunity is:

Employment with Museums of History NSW.

Clerk Grade 7/8. Remuneration package includes salary ($116,981 - $129,49 , employer's contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading.

Full-time employment on a temporary basis for a period up to 12 months.

The role will work across Sydney.

What we do

Museums of History NSW brings together a portfolio of iconic museums, rich collections and heritage sites, the nation’s oldest archive collection, vital recordkeeping services and expert staff.

We bring history to life by sharing the stories of our places and collections. Through the State Archives Collection, we manage NSW’s official documentary heritage, supporting government transparency and the public’s right to access information.

These two roles do not just sit side by side – they inform and enrich each other. By preserving and making accessible our places, collections and archives, we create opportunities for people to explore the past and better understand their own place in the world. By supporting lifelong learning and inviting people to come together, we promote civic literacy, empathy, wellbeing and belonging.

Museums of History NSW is a state cultural institution, established under the Museums of History NSW Act 2022. It is an agency of the NSW Department of Creative Industries, Tourism, Hospitality and Sport (DCITHS).

What you'll do with us:

Provide enterprise-wide business analysis services across MHNSW to understand business needs, analyse processes, identify improvement opportunities and support the delivery of ICT-enabled solutions.

The role acts as a bridge between internal business stakeholders and ICT Teams, ensuring business requirements and processes are clearly understood, defined, documented and translated into actionable technology solutions that improve service delivery, operational efficiency and user experience outcomes.

The role also contributes analysis and insights that support governance, identification of opportunities for improvement, prioritisation and program decision making, including inputs into business cases, benefits identification, options analysis, supporting solution design, assessment of business impacts and risks, and supporting the implementation of agreed technology solutions.

As a Corporate Services function, the ICT Team is an enabling partner that supports every area of MHNSW. It provides secure, reliable and fit-for-purpose business systems, data governance, digital platforms and workplace technologies that underpin day-to-day operations and enable MHNSW to achieve its strategic goals and long-term sustainability.

What you need to tell us - Targeted questions:

1. Describe a time when you had to translate complex technical information into clear business language or convert business needs into technical requirements.

In your response, outline: the business problem or user need, how you gathered and clarified information from both technical and non‑technical stakeholders, the techniques you used to simplify or translate the information, how you validated that both sides understood the requirements, and the outcome.

2. Tell us about a time when you analysed and redesigned a business process involving legacy systems or complex integration dependencies. What approach did you take, what challenges did you encounter, and what was the outcome?

Essential requirements of the role:

Demonstrated experience in business analysis, including requirements development, documentation and business process mapping and solution evaluation.

Strong analytical, conceptual and problem-solving skills.

Excellent communication and facilitation skills, coupled with strong stakeholder management skills.

Experience supporting ICT enabled change and continuous improvement initiatives.

Ability to work across diverse business areas and manage multiple stakeholders.

Experience with enterprise systems (ERP, ticketing, CRM, etc.) and digital service delivery.

Strong knowledge of system/application troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

Willingness to work across and ability to travel to multiple work locations.

To be eligible for an ongoing role in the NSW Public Sector you need to be an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident. For temporary and casual roles, you need to hold a valid visa giving you permission to work in Australia as required by the role.

All successful candidates will be required to undergo a criminal record check with NSW Police.

A talent pool may be created for future ongoing and temporary roles and is valid for a period of up to 18 months.
