About the role

Company Overview:

Imagine a piloted air taxi that takes off vertically, then quietly carries you and your fellow passengers over the congested city streets below, enabling you to spend more time with the people and places that matter most. At Joby, we've been working to make that dream a reality since 2009 and we're now in the final stages of certifying our aircraft with the FAA. With plans to launch our aircraft in the US and Dubai, we're now scaling manufacturing and preparing for the launch of our commercial service.

Overview:

We're seeking an experienced and strategic Head of Public Relations to shape Joby's external narrative as we prepare to launch a new mode of transportation. Reporting to Joby's Head of Marketing, Communications and Brand, you'll lead corporate, product and executive communications, build strong relationships with global media, and help tell the story of a category-defining technology. This is a highly visible role, working closely with the CEO, executive leadership, engineers, product teams and strategic partners to develop communications that build trust, shape public understanding and support Joby's commercial growth.

About You:

You have 12+ years of experience leading communications for innovative technology companies and have helped launch products that captured mainstream attention across business, consumer and technology media.

You're equally comfortable developing long-term communications strategy and rolling up your sleeves to execute. You have excellent news judgment, understand how media has evolved, and know how to create stories that resonate across traditional, digital and emerging platforms.

You enjoy learning complex technical subjects and translating them into clear, engaging narratives for audiences ranging from investors and policymakers to customers and consumers. You've likely worked across corporate, consumer, financial and public affairs communications, and are confident advising founders and senior executives through both major announcements and challenging moments.

You're calm under pressure, exercise sound judgment, and know when to lead from the front and when to work quietly behind the scenes.

Responsibilities:

Develop and execute Joby's external communications strategy across corporate, product and executive communications

Lead day-to-day media relations across business, technology, aviation and consumer media while building strong relationships with journalists around the world

Own and continuously evolve Joby's corporate narrative across earned, owned and executive communications

Identify newsworthy storytelling opportunities that reinforce Joby's leadership and build long-term brand credibility

Partner with strategic commercial and manufacturing partners on joint communications initiatives

Lead the development of high-quality communications materials, including press releases, blogs, executive speeches, Q&As, opinion pieces and social content

Prepare and coach executives for interviews, speaking engagements and media appearances

Lead Joby's executive visibility program, identifying high-impact speaking opportunities and industry engagements

Support communications around major company milestones, including quarterly earnings, regulatory progress, commercial launches and strategic announcements

Anticipate reputational risks and lead communications planning and response during sensitive issues and crisis situations

Manage external agencies and an in-house team of communicators, ensuring consistent execution across all programs

Measure communications performance and use data and insights to continuously improve strategy and execution

Required:

12+ years of communications experience within the technology sector

Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field, or equivalent industry experience

Experience leading communications for a publicly traded company

Experience advising senior executives, including founders, CEOs and board members

Experience working in a highly regulated industry

Proven success launching high-profile products and building compelling consumer-facing narratives

Strong relationships with top-tier business, technology and consumer media

Exceptional writing, editing and storytelling skills, with the ability to simplify complex technical concepts

Demonstrated experience anticipating reputational risk and managing complex communications issues, including crisis communications

Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously

Analytical mindset with experience measuring communications performance and informing strategy through insights

Desired:

Experience working for a high-growth startup or category-defining technology company

Background in transportation, aerospace, mobility or another highly regulated industry

Experience supporting public policy or government affairs initiatives

Experience leading international communications programs across multiple markets
