Position Summary

The Data Architect is a highly skilled data professional responsible for designing, developing, and implementing scalable data architecture solutions that support enterprise reporting, analytics, and business intelligence initiatives. Working within established enterprise architecture standards, this role translates business and technical requirements into practical data solutions that enable trusted, accessible, and high-quality data across the organization.

The Data Architect partners with business stakeholders, Data Product Managers, data engineers, and analytics teams to design and optimize data pipelines, data models, integrations, and analytical platforms. This role applies advanced analytical and problem-solving skills to resolve complex data challenges, improve data accessibility and quality, and support the successful delivery of data and analytics initiatives.

The position operates independently on complex assignments, contributes to larger transformation programs, and may lead small projects or data architecture workstreams.

Key Responsibilities

Data Solution Architecture

Design scalable and maintainable data architecture solutions aligned with enterprise standards, business requirements, and analytics objectives.

Translate business and functional requirements into logical and physical data models.

Develop architecture approaches for data ingestion, transformation, storage, and consumption across cloud and on-premise environments.

Evaluate existing data environments and recommend improvements to support performance, scalability, and maintainability.

Data Integration & Engineering Support

Design and support data integration solutions for SAP ECC, SAP BW, SAP S/4HANA, and other enterprise systems.

Define data movement, transformation, and integration approaches using Azure-based technologies.

Collaborate with engineering teams to implement ETL/ELT frameworks and reusable design patterns.

Support performance tuning and optimization of data pipelines and processing workloads.

Data Modeling & Analytics Enablement

Develop logical, conceptual, and physical data models that support reporting, analytics, and business intelligence use cases.

Design Lakehouse and modern data platform structures consistent with enterprise architecture guidelines.

Partner with analytics teams to ensure data structures effectively support Power BI and other reporting solutions.

Recommend improvements to data accessibility, usability, and reporting effectiveness.

Data Governance & Quality

Support enterprise data governance initiatives by incorporating data quality, lineage, metadata, and security requirements into solution designs.

Collaborate with governance teams to promote data standards and best practices.

Help identify and resolve data quality issues through effective architecture and design approaches.

Ensure compliance with established security, privacy, and regulatory requirements.

Stakeholder Collaboration

Partner with business stakeholders, Data Product Managers, and technical teams to understand requirements and deliver effective data solutions.

Communicate architecture concepts and technical recommendations to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Provide guidance and consultation on data architecture best practices and solution alternatives.

Build strong working relationships across global and cross-functional teams.

Project Leadership & Continuous Improvement

Lead data architecture activities for small projects or defined workstreams within larger transformation initiatives.

Contribute to architecture reviews, design sessions, and technical decision-making processes.

Identify opportunities to improve data platform capabilities, development practices, and operational efficiency.

Stay current with emerging technologies, cloud data platforms, and industry best practices.

Required Skills & Technical Expertise

Essential

Strong understanding of data architecture principles, data modeling techniques, and data integration methodologies.

Experience designing and implementing cloud-based data solutions within Azure environments.

Hands-on experience with

Azure Databricks (PySpark, Spark SQL)

Azure Data Factory (ADF)

Azure Data Lake Storage (ADLS Gen2)

Power BI

Knowledge of ETL/ELT design and implementation methodologies.

Experience with data warehousing, Lakehouse architecture, and modern analytics platforms.

Strong SQL development and performance optimization skills.

Familiarity with SAP data structures and source systems including SAP ECC, SAP BW, and SAP S/4HANA.

Ability to analyze and resolve complex data and integration challenges

Experience

Essential

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related discipline and 5+ years of relevant experience, OR

Minimum of 5 years of experience in data architecture, data engineering, analytics platforms, or related data management disciplines.

Experience designing and implementing enterprise data solutions supporting reporting, analytics, and business intelligence initiatives.

Experience participating in cross-functional project teams and collaborating with business and technical stakeholders.

Experience working within Agile delivery environments.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with SAP extraction technologies including CDS Views, ODP, OData, or SAP Extractors.

Knowledge of Microsoft Purview, Collibra, or similar data governance solutions.

Experience with Microsoft Fabric, Synapse Analytics, or other cloud data platforms.

Domain knowledge in Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Finance, or Commercial Operations.

Professional certifications related to Azure Data, Databricks, SAP Data & Analytics, or Data Architecture.
