We are currently seeking an experienced Track Engineer to join the SRL Operator Technical Team and Engineering Authority within the Suburban Rail Loop (SRL) Linewide Alliance.

About the Role:

The Track Engineer plays a key role in ensuring track specification and design are developed to meet the needs of future SRL operations. The role focuses on safety, performance, reliability, and whole-of-life optimisation, supporting an operator-led design approach throughout the project lifecycle.

Reporting through the Engineering Authority, you will provide technical reviews to the Engineering Authority Manager ahead of RTO stage gates and Engineering Review Committees. You will also support the development of Operation and Maintenance (O&M) needs from the early phases of the project. The scope of the role may evolve as the program progresses. In this role, you will:

Develop and maintain track sections of O&M Concept Documents, including stabling yards

Translate concept documentation into O&M needs and project requirements

Ensure RAM specifications and track design meet system performance requirements

Support system-wide noise and vibration targets through track design

Review Linewide Alliance track designs to meet operator requirements across stabling yards, depots, tunnels, and testing facilities

Contribute to track reliability targets with Alliance partners

Participate in Safety in Design reviews for track systems

Ensure seamless integration of track with other subsystems, including wheel–rail interfaces

Review track interfaces and related assets

Assess stabling yard layouts, depot arrangements, and storage capacity

Ensure track maintenance equipment meets operational requirements

Support O&M readiness with track maintenance procedures

Collect and provide asset data per asset management schema

Own and improve lifecycle cost assumptions during design

Maintain track maintenance documentation and support audits and inspections

Review track completion and handover artefacts

Ensure compliance with regulations, standards, and best practices

Stay informed on emerging technologies and regulatory changes affecting track systems

Provide technical guidance in your area of expertise

About You:

You are a technically strong rail professional with deep experience in track systems across design, delivery, and maintenance. You are comfortable working across interfaces, influencing design outcomes, and ensuring track systems are fit for long-term operations. You will bring:

Master’s degree in Engineering or a related discipline

7–10 years’ experience in track design, manufacturing, testing, commissioning, and maintenance

Experience with depot equipment, special tools, and predictive maintenance technologies

Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills

Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders

Certification or training in relevant system technologies or methodologies (desirable)

Experience with project management tools and methodologies delivering complex projects (desirable)
