What’s the role?

As the Chief Engineer – Downstream, you will be the technical architect of Westpac’s future intelligence ecosystem. You will establish the engineering foundations, architectural patterns and technology capabilities that enable AI, data and business solutions to scale safely and sustainably across the Downstream domain.

Working across Risk, Finance, Treasury, Financial Crime and Fraud, you will tackle complex cross-domain challenges and create enduring solutions where no established blueprint exists. This role thinks beyond platforms and applications, focusing on the systems, patterns and foundations that will shape how the bank evolves over the next decade.

You'll join a multidisciplinary team of engineers, AI specialists, ontologists and product leaders focused on solving some of the Bank's most complex Data, AI and Technology challenges

This role can be based in Sydney or the Gold Coast .

What do I need?

Significant experience in senior engineering, architecture or technology leadership roles.

Demonstrated history of solving enterprise-scale problems across technology, organisational and business boundaries.

Proven ability to define engineering vision, standards and architectural foundations.

Experience creating reusable patterns, platforms and engineering accelerators.

Ability to mentor senior engineers, architects and technical leaders.

Strong understanding of AI, data, intelligent automation and modern engineering practices.

Experience working across regulated environments, with financial services experience a must .

Ability to move between executive strategy discussions and technical problem solving.
