About the team

The DevOps team is part of Digital identity and security within Births, Deaths and Marriages is responsible for delivering and supporting critical digital services that help people access essential life event registrations and certificates. As the Senior Database Engineer, you will take ownership of a large and complex Oracle and AWS database environment, ensuring the security, performance, availability, and resilience of systems that support vital services for the people of New South Wales.

Recommendations:

Own and manage enterprise Oracle and AWS RDS database environments that support critical business services.

Partner with developers, architects, support teams, and stakeholders to deliver secure, reliable, and high-performing database platforms.

Lead database performance optimisation, troubleshooting, security, backup and recovery, disaster recovery testing, and compliance activities.

Provide technical leadership across database design, production releases, incident management, governance, and continuous improvement initiatives.

To be successful in this role you will demonstrate:

Demonstrated experience administering and supporting large-scale enterprise Oracle databases in complex environments.

Strong expertise in AWS services, particularly Amazon RDS, and cloud-hosted database platforms.

Advanced SQL and PL/SQL skills, with proven ability to develop, troubleshoot, and optimise complex queries, stored procedures, views, and materialized views.

Strong knowledge of database security, including user access management, roles, permissions, encryption, and compliance requirements.

Experience managing database performance, monitoring, backup and recovery, disaster recovery testing, and operational resilience.

Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with experience working across DevOps, CI/CD, governance, production support, and multidisciplinary technical teams.

Salary Grade 9/10, with the base salary for this role starting at $133348 base plus superannuation
