About the role

Req ID:514509

We create smart innovations to meet the mobility challenges of today and tomorrow. We design and manufacture a complete range of transportation systems, from high-speed trains to electric buses and driverless trains, as well as infrastructure, signalling and digital mobility solutions. Joining us means joining a truly global community of more than 75 000 people dedicated to solving real-world mobility challenges and achieving international projects with sustainable local impact.

This position follows a hybrid working model, combining remote work and on-site presence.

Role Overview

The AeroX & Climatic Comfort Engineer contributes to project and tender development by applying engineering processes and domain guidelines within the areas of internal aerodynamics, thermal behaviour, HVAC performance, and climatic comfort.

The role focuses primarily on thermo‑fluid dynamic simulations and comfort assessments, using tools such as STAR‑CCM+ and Therm to evaluate airflow distribution, thermal loads, ventilation efficiency, and overall passenger and driver comfort.

The engineer also performs experimental activities, both on mock-ups (air duct networks, HVAC units, environmental chambers) and on trains,to assess climatic performance during preliminary and final validation.

The position contributes to advanced methods development, R&D initiatives, and cross‑disciplinary innovation activities.

Key Responsibilities (Comfort‑Oriented)

Perform CFD simulations for internal aerodynamics and climatic comfort (air distribution, temperature uniformity, draft risk, HVAC efficiency).

Analyse thermal behaviour of passenger and driver cabins, including heat loads, ventilation rates, and HVAC system performance.

Support the design and optimization of HVAC units, air ducts, diffusers, intakes, filters, heating and cooling solutions.

Predict climate comfort indicators using standard methodologies and internal best practices (temperature maps, PMV/PPD, local thermal comfort metrics, etc.).

Define comfort requirements at vehicle and subsystem level.

Prepare technical documentation for offers and projects concerning climatic performance.

Plan, participate in, and analyse experiments in environmental chambers, mock‑ups, or on‑train tests (cooling/heating curves, airflow measurements, thermal transients).

Support development of advanced modelling techniques combining internal aerodynamics, thermal loads, and occupant comfort.

Contribute to R&D programs focused on improving comfort, energy efficiency, and HVAC system integration.

Interact with AeroX and Comfort experts in other sites to leverage shared knowledge.

Complementary Aerodynamic Responsibilities

(maintained with reduced emphasis)

Assess external aerodynamic performance (pressure waves, crosswind, RAM) when needed.

Support documentation and testing related to train aerodynamics.

Required Competencies

Educational Background

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Energy Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, or related fields.

Experience

5+ years in thermo‑fluid dynamics, HVAC, climatic comfort engineering, railway or similar sectors.

Experience in both numerical simulation and experimental testing.

Experience managing technical tasks or small teams is preferred.

Technical Skills

Good knowledge of CFD software (STAR‑CCM+, CFX, Fluent, PowerFLOW, etc.).

Solid understanding of thermal management, HVAC systems, air distribution and human comfort assessment.

Familiarity with fluid‑structure interaction and aero‑thermal coupling is a plus.

Ability to lead transversal R&D actions and methodology development.

Soft Skills

Strong communication skills and proactivity.

Team-oriented mindset in a multidisciplinary environment.

Strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities.
