About the role
Our Canada West Civil Infrastructure Group is looking to fill a Lead Bridge Engineer- Team Lead position to join our growing Canadian Operations. This position can be based in Calgary, Edmonton or Vancouver.
This role will focus on transportation related structural work including roads and highways, rail and transit and ports. Our team provides integrated professional services throughout the full project lifecycle from initial policy and business case advice, through concept and detailed design, inspection and construction administration.
Responsibilities will include:
Work with the Civil Infrastructure Leadership team on the following:
Grow the transportation structures team and support recruiting efforts
Contribute to business and strategic planning initiatives for regional objectives and targeted client programming
Support client development and engagement
Participate in Go/No Go decisions for potential opportunities
Be an ambassador for the GHD brand
Prepare effective proposals seeking targeted project opportunities and growth of the structural transportation team in Canada West
Function as project manager or design manager on projects for public, private or contractor partners. Projects will vary in size, scope and delivery model (Ex. Traditional Design Bid Build, Alternative Project Delivery, etc.)
Provide design management and technical support for project delivery. This could be from concept design through to detailed design and construction
Engage and participate in GHD’s global technical bridge service line forums and groups
Ensure timely completion of project deliverables, managing multiple projects and competing priorities
Oversee structural analysis and preparation of engineering drawings, specifications and tender documents
Conduct site visits as required
Develop and/or implement QA/QC processes for project work, ensuring applicable standards are followed
Supervise a team, supporting staff development including mentoring, training and career progression
Engage in work sharing initiatives across GHD’s global team
Travel within Western Canada to support regional objectives and team growth
Qualifications, Skills & Competencies:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Structural Engineering
Licensed Professional Engineer in Alberta or British Columbia
10+ years of experience with transportation related structural design (bridges, culverts, retaining walls, etc). Ability to take ownership and accountability for structural design work
AREMA, CN Rail, CPKC Rail or other Class 1 experience are considered an asset
Project Management experience demonstrating effective and practical project management skills
Strong problem solving and decision-making abilities
Demonstrated leadership capabilities in the areas of personnel management, decision making, change management, employee development, performance management, and team building skills
Knowledgeable with structural analysis software and MS office
Experience managing multiple tasks while maintaining schedule and a high degree of attention to detail
Excellent communication skills (both oral and written), with the ability to interact effectively with clients and colleagues
Self-starter with an entrepreneurial attitude, committed to building a practice and being part of the exciting growth opportunities within Western Canada
The salary range for this position is $112,448 - $187,413. The posted salary range represents the expected hiring range for GHD locations in its major city centres. Ranges may vary for positions in other locations. At GHD, base salary is determined by your skills, experience, qualifications and work location.
