What you'll do
In your new role, you’ll engineer and maintain innovative, customer centric, high performance, secure and robust solutions. You’ll be working within a feature team and using your extensive experience to engineer software, scripts and tools that are often complex, as well as liaising with other engineers, architects and business analysts across the platform.
You’ll also be:
Producing complex and critical software rapidly and of high quality which adds value to the business
Collaborating to optimise our software engineering capability
Working across the life cycle, from requirements analysis and design, through coding to testing, deployment and operations
Designing reusable mainframe-centric plug-ins, modules, templates, and environment-ready components to support provisioning, automation, and cross-platform consistency across z/OS and distributed systems
Engineering reusable environment patterns and supporting artefacts that integrate core mainframe technologies with distributed and cloud platforms
Working within feature or domain teams to implement repeatable mainframe-driven patterns and tooling that improve environment stability, scalability, and developer experience
The skills you'll need
You’ll need a background in software engineering, software design, architecture, and an understanding of how your area of expertise supports our customers.
You’ll also need:
Experience of working with development and testing tools, bug tracking tools and wikis
A background in solving highly complex, analytical and numerical problems
Strong Python programming expertise, developing scalable and reusable solutions while integrating with mainframe technologies such as DB2, VSAM, CICS, and batch processing environments
Experience applying Python within DevOps, testing, and Agile environments, including CI/CD pipelines, automated testing frameworks, and tooling for mainframe-integrated platforms
Experience of implementing programming best practice, especially around scalability, automation, virtualisation, optimisation, availability and performance
