This position serves as key member on State Personnel team that helps develop job descriptions and job pay structures for the staffing needs of state agencies.

Why does the job exist?

The Compensation and Classification Specialists perform a variety of professional. technical, and analytical classification and compensation activities related to the maintenance of the State's classification and compensation systems and/or workforce planning for all agencies within the classified service. Within this series there is a primary focus of maintaining and ensuring consistent application of classification standards across all job classifications.

How does it get done?

This position serves as a Lead Compensation and Classification Analyst. Duties and responsibilities of this position include:

Provides guidance and support to staff in the division.

Makes classification determinations based on job content research.

Provide analytical support and data analysis on projects and human resource metrics.

Create new classification descriptions which accurately reflect current roles, responsibilities, and requirements.

Administer classifications through all aspects of job creation including creation of job class and pay codes, posting of new and revised descriptions.

Participate in the establishment of a strategic work plan for compensation and classification development.

Monitor and recommend adjustments based on various metrics

Minimum Qualification

Bachelor's Degree in Human Resource Management or Business Administration, Personnel Administration or Management and four (4) years of experience as it pertains to the essential duties and responsibilities of this classification. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience as it pertains to the essential duties and responsibilities of this classification totaling eight (8) years may substitute for the required education and experience.

Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification within six (6) months of date of hire as a condition of continued employment.

Working Conditions

Work is usually performed in an office setting, with extensive exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT), personal computer, tablet, printer, calculator, hole-punch, cellphone, copy machine, scanner, keyboard, and telephone usage. Some travel may be required.
