Automation & Robotics Engineer
About the role
Valex Corporation is seeking an experienced Automation & Robotics Engineer to join our Manufacturing & Automation Engineering team in Ventura, California. This position is responsible for the design, programming, integration, commissioning, and support of advanced manufacturing equipment and automation systems used throughout our operations.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on engineer with extensive experience in industrial automation, controls, robotics, machine integration, and manufacturing process development. This individual will work closely with Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, and Operations teams to develop new automation solutions and improve existing production equipment.
Essential Responsibilities
Design, develop, program, troubleshoot, and support industrial automation systems.
Develop and maintain PLC programs, HMI applications, operator interfaces, and machine control architectures.
Integrate industrial robots, machine vision systems, laser seam tracking systems, sensors, servo systems, VFDs, and safety controls.
Support machine commissioning, startup, debugging, validation, and implementation activities.
Troubleshoot controls, automation, robotics, electrical, and integrated manufacturing systems.
Develop electrical schematics, I/O lists, network architectures, control narratives, and technical documentation.
Collaborate with Mechanical Engineers to support machine design, welding automation, tooling, fixture design, and manufacturing process improvements.
Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions to improve equipment reliability, safety, quality, and productivity.
Lead and support continuous improvement initiatives related to automation, throughput, quality, and operational efficiency.
Provide technical support to manufacturing operations and maintenance teams.
Occasionally travel to support equipment installation, startup, and project implementation.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering required (Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Controls Engineering, or a related discipline).
Preference will be given to candidates whose degree program included a specialization, concentration, or significant coursework in Control Systems, Automation, Robotics, Mechatronics, or Industrial Controls.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in industrial automation, controls engineering, robotics, manufacturing engineering, or a related field.
Demonstrated success executing automation projects from concept through commissioning and production implementation.
Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively across Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, and Operations teams.
Must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future company sponsorship.

MIG and/or TIG welding experience
Experience developing robotic welding cells
Machine vision system integration experience
SCADA system development and support
SQL/database integration
Familiarity with UL 508A and NFPA 79 standards
Industrial control panel design experience
Hands-on machine building and startup experience
Experience supporting automated manufacturing environments
This is a full-time, exempt position located in Ventura, California.
Salary Range: $100,000 – $150,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications.
