About Us:

Walhallow Aboriginal Corporation (WAC) is committed to delivering culturally sensitive healthcare services to the Quirindi, Walhallow, and Coledale communities. Our comprehensive offerings include general practice clinics, health screenings, work development programmes, Aboriginal disability liaison support, and coordination of visiting services. With a team of regular GPs, nurses, and Aboriginal Health Practitioners, we ensure that each service is tailored to meet the unique needs of our community members.

Opportunity:

The Health Promotions Officer is NACCHO funded until June 2027, to enable the delivery of the Improving First Nations Cancer Program by Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations (ACCHOs) in Coledale and across the Liverpool Plains NSW.

Funding will improve outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities across all parts of the cancer journey. This includes strengthening the ACCHO workforce to respond to inequities and barriers in cancer services to support the implementation of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cancer Plan.

Responsibilities:

develop community-led, place-based, cancer specific communications campaigns and engagement activities to reduce stigma around cancer and address lifestyle risk factors linked to cancer

identify local needs and priorities to develop and deliver tailored, culturally appropriate, place-based health promotion strategies and resources to increase cancer screening and prevention activities

support the coordination, resourcing, and delivery of regular holistic cancer screening days

monitor community engagement in prevention and screening activities and identify gaps and areas for improvement

build productive and meaningful relationships with a range of stakeholders, including the broader ACCHO sector, to inform the delivery of communications and resources

conduct continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities such as undertaking training to access and extract data from Patient Information Management Systems (PIMS)

compile a suite of reporting in collaboration with NACCHO and ACCHOs to improve recall systems and eligibility monitoring to increase participation in screening.

Take photographs and collect stories from community events, ensuring appropriate consent processes are followed.

Manage and maintain social media platforms, including creating and scheduling posts, videos, and community updates.

About You:

It is preferred the Health Promotion Officer will have:

Proven knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and cultures and an understanding of the issues affecting the health outcomes of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people

Experience working professionally in health and/or Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community-controlled setting would be highly regarded

Qualifications in a relevant discipline such as public health, health promotion and engagement, or similar are preferred

Ability to plan and deliver program initiatives and projects within dedicated timeframes to a range of audiences

Community engagement skills and/or experience in stakeholder engagement

Demonstrated written and oral communication skills including the ability to use communication to influence behavioural change

Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Applicants must be of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent, identify as such, and be accepted by their community.

Experience using Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar graphic design tools or willing to learn

Experience with website and social media analytics reporting or willing to learn
