About the role

Role purpose

Own end-to-end tax compliance and IFRS tax reporting for HSBC Mexico, ensuring strong governance and risk management, driving automation and continuous improvement, and partnering with the business and Head of Tax on strategic initiatives and complex tax matters.

Main activities:

1. Tax Compliance and Reporting

Lead the agile tax compliance process for all legal entities in Mexico, ensuring accuracy and timely fulfillment of tax obligations (ISR, VAT, SIPRED, ISSIF, IMMEX, informative returns).

Responsible for the accurate preparation and forecasting of current and deferred taxes for IFRS reporting, capital planning, stress testing, and profit sharing.

Ensure reconciliation and substantiation of tax accounts and respond to regulator tax requirements.

Oversee tax reporting for external audits, including Current and Deferred Taxes, and Effective Tax Rate (ETR).

2. Governance and Risk Management

Design, establish, and maintain a strong governance framework and SOX-compliant controls across all tax processes, ensuring interdepartmental coordination.

Identify Uncertain Tax Positions (UTPs) and potential exposures, aligning tax risk appetite with business strategies.

Implement proactive measures to mitigate tax risks and avoid operational losses.

3. Process Optimization and Innovation

Drive efficiency and automation in tax compliance processes by developing tactical and strategic solutions.

Encourage innovation and creative thinking to resolve complex tax matters effectively.

Promote continuous improvement and standardization of tax-related workflows.

4. Business Advisory and Strategic Support

Provide expert tax advisory on daily operations across functions.

Support the Head of Tax on strategic projects such as M&A, corporate restructuring, and entity rationalization.

Requirements

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or Economics (required)

Master’s Degree in Taxes, Finance, or related field (preferred)

Experience

10+ years of experience in Tax Compliance and Reporting, ideally in multinational companies.

Previous experience in the financial sector is highly desirable.

Experience at a Big Four firm (preferred).

Solid technical knowledge in both local and international tax advisory, compliance, and IFRS tax accounting.
