At the Department of Physiology Anatomy & Genetics (DPAG) we undertake discovery science where we reassemble physiological processes at the molecular, cellular, tissue and systems level of organisation. Overview of the role:

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced and proactive HR professional to join our team as an HR Advisor.

This role is ideally suited to someone with strong administrative and organisational skills, experience working within an HR environment, and the ability to manage a varied workload within a busy and complex department.

As part of the DPAG HR team, you will provide professional, efficient, and customer-focused HR support across the full employee lifecycle. You will manage recruitment campaigns, support payroll administration, maintain accurate records, advise staff and managers on HR procedures and ensure compliance with employment legislation and University policies.

The role also includes supporting international recruitment processes, including right-to-work and visa compliance where required, monitoring fixed-term contract processes, coordinating onboarding and induction activities, and contributing to HR projects that feed into the smooth delivery of HR services across the department.

About you:

You will need excellent communication and interpersonal skills, a high level of attention to detail, and the ability to handle confidential information with discretion. A flexible and proactive approach, alongside strong IT and administrative skills, will be essential for success in this role.

Key responsibilities:

Manage the full recruitment lifecycle including vacancy identification, creating and advertising job postings, shortlisting candidates, coordinating interviews, issuing contracts, and onboarding new employees

Handle payroll-related tasks, including monthly updates for new starters, leavers, and changes, ensuring compliance with deadlines and proper authorisation.

Act as the first point of contact for HR-related enquiries, managing communications via telephone, email, and in person.

Oversee processes for probation and annual reviews.

Maintain confidential personnel records and ensure compliance with retention policies.

Generate and analyse regular and ad-hoc reports on workforce data.

Plan and prioritise workload to meet deadlines accurately and efficiently.

Selection criteria:

Educated to A level standard with GCSE (grade A-C) level English and Maths, or equivalent

CIPD level 3 (Certificate or Diploma or working towards CIPD accreditation.)

Experience of working in an HR team/ HR role

Up-to-date knowledge of employment law (including equality, capability, discipline, dismissal, and redundancy)

Awareness of data protection and information security guidelines

Ability to clearly and accurately communicate HR processes and procedures verbally and in writing

Demonstrable ability to prioritise workload and produce accurate, detailed work within deadlines

Experience of providing a high level of customer service with accuracy and attention to detail

Experience of relevant administrative work including ability to use Microsoft Office and email

Willingness to undertake professional development and training
