About the role

At ABB, we help industries run leaner and cleaner - and every person here makes that happen. You’ll be empowered to lead, supported to grow, and proud of the impact we create together. Join us and help run what runs the world.

This position reports to:

Local Division Manager

__

Your role and responsibilities

In this role, you will have the opportunity to shape ABB's competitive strategy in Australia's electric motors market - moving beyond price-based competition to building a defensible, specification-driven market position. Each day, you will engage with key end-users and engineering contractors (EPCs) across Australia's mining, oil & gas, and water & wastewater sectors, influencing project specifications and building long-term strategic relationships that drive market penetration and sustainable revenue growth for ABB's motor portfolio.

This is not a traditional sales role. You will operate at the strategic level - working with asset owners, engineers, and decision-makers well before projects go to market, positioning ABB as the preferred motor and drive solutions partner of choice. You will have the autonomy to define your own account strategy, build your own network, and directly shape ABB's market share trajectory in Australia over the coming years.

The work model for the role is: Hybrid

This role is contributing to the IEC LV Motors and Motors & Generators Divisions in Australia.

You will be mainly accountable for:

Building and managing strategic relationships with key end-users and EPCs in mining, oil & gas, and water & wastewater sectors, influencing motor specifications for upcoming capital projects and greenfield sites

Developing and executing a market influence strategy that positions ABB's motor solutions as the preferred specification for target accounts across Australia

Creating and managing a long-term opportunity pipeline; driving frame agreement negotiations and approved vendor list placements with key end-users and EPCs

Collaborating across ABB's LV IEC Motors and Motors & Generators divisions to deliver a unified, portfolio-wide value proposition to market

You will join a passionate, commercially driven team that is committed to growing ABB's presence in Australia's industrial motors market. This is a newly created, high-visibility role with direct exposure to divisional leadership and a genuine opportunity to influence go-to-market strategy from the ground up. You will work closely with both the LV IEC Motors and Motors & Generators sales teams, acting as the bridge between ABB's technical product capabilities and the engineers and asset owners who specify them. For the right person, this role offers a clear pathway to broader leadership responsibility as ABB's motors business grows.

Qualifications for the role

You have 8+ years of experience in market development, technical sales, or strategic account management within the electric motors, drives, or broader industrial equipment market, with a demonstrated track record of building end-user and EPC relationships

You are highly skilled in specification influence and consultative selling - you understand how capital projects are developed, how specifications are written, and how to position a premium technical solution against lower-cost competitors

You are immersed in Australia's industrial market - particularly mining, oil & gas, or water & wastewater - and bring an established network of end-user and/or EPC contacts you can leverage from day one

You are passionate about technical solutions and possess strong product knowledge across electric motors and/or variable speed drives; you can confidently articulate total cost of ownership, efficiency, and reliability benefits to senior engineering and procurement stakeholders

You hold a degree in Engineering (Electrical or Mechanical preferred) or demonstrate equivalent experience through a business or technical qualification combined with strong industry knowledge

You are at ease communicating in English, with outstanding presentation and relationship-building skills that allow you to engage credibly at all levels - from site engineers to C-suite executives

You hold a current Australian driver's licence valid in your state of residence; this role requires regular travel across Australia to visit end-users, EPCs, and project sites

What's in it for you?

Strategic autonomy: This is a newly created role where you will define the strategy, own the relationships, and directly influence ABB's market position in Australia. You won't be executing someone else's playbook - you'll be writing it

Career growth pathway: As ABB's motors market presence grows, so does this role. There is a clear pathway to expanded responsibility - including potential team leadership - as the business case scales

Meaningful work: You will represent one of the world's leading electrification and automation brands, helping Australia's most critical industries - mining, water, energy - run more efficiently and sustainably

Competitive package: A market-competitive base salary supported by a car allowance, performance bonus, and flexible hybrid working arrangement

Benefits

We also offer our employees the following benefits:

Car allowance

Performance-based bonus and incentive structure

Flexible hybrid working

Ongoing professional development and ABB-sponsored training

Access to ABB's global knowledge network and world-class product portfolio

Locally, you can count on a collaborative and supportive team culture, flexibility to manage your own schedule around customer engagement, and the backing of a globally recognised brand with deep technical credentials in the Australian market.
