Job Purpose
We are looking for an innovative and energetic Senior Hardware Design Engineer capable of delivering product solutions with on-time results with a minimal amount of supervision.
In this role, you will be responsible for designing high-performance, high-data-rate optical data transceivers for the AI, high-speed computing, and datacom markets. State-of-the-art optical transceiver modules present design challenges for data rates, power density, thermal management, component and signal routing density.
Nature of Duties/Responsibilities
Lead the technical development with a multi-disciplinary team (electrical, PCB layout, mechanical, software, thermal, Signal Integrity, micro-electronic, and test engineering)
PCB & Electrical design of electro-optical transceivers
PCB design, including circuit design, schematic capture, and guiding the PCB layout engineer
Work closely with Signal Integrity and Power Integrity engineers to simulate the performance of the design, determine the correct PCB materials, board stackup, and trace geometries needed to meet performance specs
Power distribution and dissipation estimation and analysis
Co-develop the HW/SW IO architecture with SW engineering
Work closely with PCB fabricators and PCBA assemblers to ensure the PCB design is manufacturable and will meet design specs (DFM)
Guide the test development team, planning, and perform engineering checkout of prototypes
Participate in design reviews and regular status meetings
Assist with project planning, estimation, and budgeting
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or relevant experience.
Minimum 12 years design experience.
Be a strong and clear communicator, able to capture and communicate complex concepts and their trade-offs
An ability to work well with other team members, suppliers and partners to lead the team to a design solution
Must be a detail-oriented with high-quality outputs
The ideal candidates would also have:
Experience with optical transceiver module development
Technical leadership experience
Experience with optical modules is desirable (a strong design lead should be able to pick this up quickly)
High-speed PCB design and signal integrity experience
Strong debugging skills
OTHER INFORMATION
The compensation range for this position is $125,000 - $165,000 annually.

Compensation
This Design Engineer role pays $125k-$165k/yr. Within typical range for design engineer roles in Canada.
