District Five is one of six districts of the New Mexico Department of Transportation. The boundaries of District Five include the following counties: Torrance, Santa Fe, Los Alamos, Rio Arriba, Taos, and San Juan. Employees in the District are responsible for providing the Maintenance, Construction, Engineering Support, and Business support measures of the Department to ensure the safety of the public as well as efficient highways.
As a valued new employee to NMDOT, you may be eligible to receive three (3) days of administrative leave upon your start date.
This is applicable to external hires not within the State of New Mexico Government.
This position is in Santa Fe and will be within the District Five Human Resources/Administrative Section.
INTERVIEWS ARE ANTICIPATED TO BE CONDUCTED WITHIN TWO (2) WEEKS OF CLOSING DATE.
Why does the job exist?
Position is responsible for providing payroll and benefit support for the District Five's staff, office, patrols, and construction offices with an emphasis on customer service and operational consistency for over 300+employees. This position will also assist in new employee orientation as well as on-boarding employees while providing assistance with payroll, benefits and benefit enrollment at the time of orientation.
How does it get done?
Incumbent is responsible for biweekly payroll/benefits and associated payroll actions. Incumbent will audit biweekly payroll and associated actions for correct processing. Incumbent will process employee hires, transfers and terminations as needed with applicable payroll and benefits processing and closure. Lastly incumbent will maintains personnel files for new hire/current employees and positions actions, and processes as well as provides assistance with personnel transactions as needed.

Minimum Qualification
Bachelor's Degree in any field. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling four (4) years may substitute for the required education.
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Must be able to meet strict deadlines, maintain high level of confidentiality and maintain composure in stressful situations. Some in-state travel to the Patrols may be required of this position. Working Conditions for individual positions in this classification will vary based on each agency's utilization, essential functions, and the recruitment needs at the time a vacancy is posted.
