Role description
We’re looking for a Principal Software Engineer to own the systems that connect everything we do.
You’ll spend most of your time designing APIs building integrations with third-party platforms and shaping the end-to-end experience on top of them.
This is a senior individual contributor role with real technical leadership scope.
You’ll set technical direction mentor a small team and partner closely with product security and data.
AI assisted development is part of how we work. You’ll be expected to use Claude Codex GitHub Copilot Claude Code and similar tools as force multipliers not curiosities
What You’ll Do
Lead the API platform Design build and evolve our REST and GraphQL surface including webhooks and async event driven patterns Treat APIs as products with developer users not plumbing
Own integrations end-to-end Build and maintain connections with external systems vendors data providers and internal legacy platforms including contracts versioning observability retries and graceful failure
Ship full stack features across backend services data layer and modern web frontends with a strong bias toward the backend and integration tier
Set the technical standard for API design guidelines integration patterns testing strategy code review culture and threat modelling
Multiply the team by mentoring 36 engineers through pairing RFCs and design reviews Raise the bar without slowing people down
Partner across the organization with product security platform and data teams on roadmap SLAs and architecture decisions
Use AI tools thoughtfully across design exploration code generation refactoring review test generation and documentation Know where to trust them and where not to
Required Qualifications
10 years of professional software engineering experience with at least 3 years in a senior or principal capacity
Deep API expertise REST and GraphQL, OpenAPI Swagger authentication patterns OAuth2 OIDC mTLS versioning rate limiting idempotency pagination and error semantics
Strong integration background event driven architectures message queues such as Kafka SQS RabbitMQ or similar webhooks ETLELT retries dead letter strategies and integrating with complex third-party APIs and legacy systems
Fullstack production experience with a modern frontend framework such as React, Nextjs with TypeScript or equivalent and a primary backend language such as Nodejs Python Java Go or C
Cloud native fluency with AWS Azure or GCP including container orchestration infrastructure as code such as Terraform or Pulumi and CICD pipelines
Solid data fundamentals including relational and NoSQL stores SQL fluency schema design query tuning and performance tuning
Handson fluent use of modern AI development tools such as Claude Codex GitHub Copilot Claude Code Cursor or similar You can speak concretely about what youve shipped with them how your workflow works and where youve learned not to trust them
Demonstrated technical leadership through mentoring engineers writing design documents driving crossteam decisions and influencing without formal authority

Actual compensation within the range will be dependent upon the individual's skills, experience, performance and internal equity.
