About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and results-driven Corporate Fleet Operations Manager to lead and optimize transportation performance across our network. This role is responsible for driving safety, service, and cost efficiency while maximizing fleet utilization through strong leadership, data-driven decision-making, and operational excellence.
This is a high-impact leadership role with significant influence over fleet strategy, transportation cost structure, and service execution across a large-scale retail supply chain.
Main responsibilities:
Leadership & Network Performance
Lead, coach, and develop Transportation leadership across 16 distribution centers supporting a fleet of 1,500+ tractors and 5,000+ trailers
Drive accountability for key performance metrics, including:
Cost per mile and cost per case
On-time delivery and service levels across 2,200+ stores
Fleet utilization, cube efficiency, and driver productivity
Build organizational capability by developing high-potential talent and strengthening leadership bench depth
Fleet Operations & Asset Optimization
Lead enterprise fleet strategy across a large-scale private fleet, including:
Tractor and trailer utilization optimization
Asset lifecycle planning, replacement strategy, and capital efficiency
Preventative maintenance compliance in partnership with maintenance teams
Improve asset productivity, uptime, and total cost of ownership across the network
Drive initiatives to reduce fuel consumption, idle time, and overall operating costs
Transportation Strategy & Freight Optimization
Support and “Own More Freight” strategy by:
Increasing backhaul utilization across the network
Identifying and scaling for-hire freight opportunities
Partner with supply chain, merchandising, and procurement teams to optimize freight mix and inbound terms (FOB vs Delivered)
Evaluate insource vs outsource strategies to balance cost, capacity, and service
Technology, Systems & Analytics
Ensure optimal configuration, adoption, and continuous improvement of Transportation Management Systems (TMS) across all DCs
Leverage routing tools, telematics, and advanced analytics to enhance decision-making and visibility
Develop and standardize reporting and KPI dashboards to monitor performance and identify improvement opportunities
Operational Excellence
Establish and standardize transportation SOPs and best practices across all distribution centers
Lead continuous improvement initiatives focused on:
Route optimization and load planning
Delivery scheduling and execution consistency
Network efficiency and cost reduction
Support DCs in developing effective retail delivery and clean-out schedules
Support compliance with DOT, OSHA, FDA, and all applicable regulatory requirements
Promote a strong safety culture with clear accountability and measurable results
We are looking for candidates who possess the following:
10 plus years of transportation, fleet operations, or supply chain experience (grocery or retail preferred)
5 plus years of leadership experience across multiple sites or regions
Proven track record of managing large-scale fleet operations and delivering measurable improvements in cost, service, and utilization
