Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Sr Financial Analyst (Governmental Reimbursement).
In this role, the successful candidate with the Decision Support, Strategy & Governmental Reimbursement Team (DSS & Gov) Overview:
The Decision Support team is an essential asset to the health system, providing Cost Accounting, benchmarking, regulatory reimbursement, and analytical services to inform sound business decisions across the institution. The team’s reimbursement function encompasses Medicare and Medicaid cost report preparation, third-party payer analysis, government program compliance, and revenue optimization strategies. The team is comprised of 25 FTEs and supported by a fully dedicated IT group. The Decision Support team partners directly with clinical, operational, and cross-functional teams across the enterprise to inform and assist in the achievement of institutional goals.
Under the guidance of the Assistant Director of Governmental Reimbursement, the Senior Financial Analyst (SFA) is responsible for providing comprehensive accounting and financial analysis in support of the Reimbursement Department. This role plays a critical part in ensuring the accurate and timely preparation of regulatory cost reports, government program submissions, and third-party reimbursement analyses. The SFA will collaborate cross-functionally with Finance, Revenue Cycle, Treasury, and clinical departments to optimize reimbursement outcomes while maintaining strict compliance with applicable federal and state regulations. This position requires strong analytical capabilities, proficiency in advanced data tools and financial systems, and the ability to manage complex datasets and regulatory requirements in a dynamic healthcare environment.
Job Responsibilities:
Cost Report & Regulatory Submissions
Assist in the preparation and filing of the NYS Institutional Cost Report (NYSICR) and Medicare 2552 cost report submissions.
Prepare exhibits and schedules related to expenses, operating revenues, reclassifications, recoveries, and statistical allocations.
Prepare and submit monthly NYS DOH pool submissions accurately and on a timely basis.
Assist in the completion of routine and special regulatory reports and surveys.
Assist in submitting Medicare and Medicaid provider enrollment applications and supporting documentation in compliance with CMS regulations, state Medicaid agency requirements, and applicable local guidelines.
Financial Analysis & Revenue Accrual
Facilitate the analysis of third-party rate accounts and payer contracts.
Assist in the calculation of monthly Medicare revenue accruals by updating PS&R and patient statistical data.
Reconcile and summarize cash receipt amounts detailed on Treasury department reports.
Support the gathering and compilation of quarterly physician time studies.
Audit & Compliance Support
Participate in both internal and external audits by providing supporting documentation in a timely manner.
Maintain trustworthiness and integrity; respect and uphold the confidentiality of all financial and patient information.
Package and summarize analytical findings with clear understanding of results and thoughtful recommendations
Analytical Excellence & Operational Initiative
Independently develop analytical frameworks for large, complex data sets and exercise discretion and judgement in analytical approach
Proactively communicate to management any arising issues or barriers to meet timelines/deliverables
Identify opportunities for continuous improvement (e.g. improving data integrity, process flow); act independently on resolving / improving
Demonstrate initiative for taking on new tasks or responsibilities. Exhibits creative thinking by suggesting alternative and innovative solutions to problems encountered
Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a Bachelors degree with a major in a business subject (e.g. accounting, finance, economics) and 3-5 years of related experience.
Other minimum qualifications include: excellent oral and written communication skills, analytical skills, problem solving skills, and a comprehensive knowledge all applications within Microsoft Office; specifically with Excel..
Preferred Licenses: Certified Public Accountant
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree or CPA with specific experience in hospital reimbursement, cost report preparation designation a plus.
High-level of proficiency in Excel
Extensive experience in data transformation/manipulation
Basic understanding of database relationships and structures
Experience in Business Intelligence/visualization tools (i.e. Tableau, Power BI)
Familiarity with AI-assisted tools for data analysis, research, and workflow automation (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot)

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $84,577.92 – $86,100.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.

Step 1

The NYU Langone hiring process begins with you applying through our online portal. Be sure to update and upload your resume. Shortly after you submit your application, you will receive an email confirmation. Ten days after applying you will receive a talent assessment to be completed.
Step 2
Schedule Interviews
If selected to continue the interview process, HR will reach out via phone or email first. Then, depending on your position, they will schedule an interview with unit managers or team members. You are encouraged to dress professionally for all interviews.
Step 3
Receive Offer
If you successfully complete the interview process and are identified as a finalist for the position, we will require that you complete a professional reference process. After evaluating the completed references, a decision will be made on who will receive a preliminary offer. If you receive a preliminary offer, HR will start the onboarding process with an agreed-upon tentative start date.
Step 4
Training & Orientation
You will be contacted by an onboarding specialist who will work with you on your pre-boarding requirements. Once fully cleared, we will ask you to complete compliance orientation regulatory training. On your first day, you will attend an online required orientation to acclimate to the health system and report to your new department based on instructions provided by your hiring manager.
Compensation
