About the role
The Opportunity
KPIT Brasil is seeking a Data Link Engineer with strong expertise in Embedded C, CAN, and SAE J1939 to join our automotive engineering team and contribute to next-generation vehicle communication systems.
In this role, you will develop, integrate, and validate embedded communication software for automotive and powertrain applications, with a strong focus on CAN networks, SAE J1939 communication, and diagnostics. You'll collaborate with global engineering teams to build robust, scalable, and high-performance solutions that power modern connected vehicles.
Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, and maintain SAE J1939 communication stack features, diagnostics, and PGN/SPN handling.
Develop embedded software in C for CAN-based vehicle networks.
Define and manage PGN mappings, DBC files, ARXML artifacts, and network configurations.
Build and maintain automated test frameworks and HIL/SIL validation environments.
Develop conformance, integration, and regression tests for J1939 communication and multi-packet messaging.
Analyze communication logs, troubleshoot issues, and perform root cause analysis.
Utilize tools such as CANoe, CANalyzer, VectorCAST, Calterm, and PCAN for development, testing, and debugging.
Collaborate with systems, diagnostics, ECU, and software teams to ensure compliance with SAE J1939 standards.
Create and maintain technical documentation, including interface specifications, network design documents, test plans, and release notes.
What We're Looking For
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
3–7 years of experience in embedded automotive software development.
Strong programming skills in Embedded C.
Hands-on experience with CAN and SAE J1939 communication protocols.
Solid understanding of: J1939 diagnostics, PGN/SPN structures, PDU1 and PDU2 formats, Multi-packet transport protocols Address management, Experience creating and maintaining DBC and ARXML files.
Experience debugging embedded software and vehicle communication issues.
Familiarity with requirements analysis and software development processes.
Understanding of AUTOSAR architecture and integration.
