Overview:

We are seeking a database operations engineer to support the health, performance, and reliability of our database environments. You'll work cross functionally with several data/technology teams across the firm, giving you real visibility into how data powers the business. In this role, you partner closely with senior members of the team, monitoring performance, supporting critical maintence and troubleshooting efforts through automation, documentation, performance tuning, and data migration/disaster recovery efforts. Responsibilities:

Monitor database health, performance, and availability

Assist in performing routine database maintenance tasks, including backups, restores, and patching

Help troubleshoot and resolve database-related incidents

Support the creation and maintenance of database documentation, runbooks, and standard operating procedures

Assist with user access management, permissions, and basic security configurations

Write and optimize basic SQL queries for data retrieval, reporting, and troubleshooting

Participate in on-call rotation for database operations support (with senior backup)

Collaborate with software engineers and analysts to support data needs across teams

Help identify opportunities to automate repetitive operational tasks

Learn and apply database performance tuning fundamentals (indexing, query optimization)

Assist with data migration, replication, and disaster recovery testing efforts

Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field - or equivalent practical experience

Understanding of relational database concepts (tables, indexes, keys, normalization)

Familiarity with SQL and writing queries

Exposure to at least one database platform (e.g., PostgreSQL, SQL Server, MySQL)

Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment

Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail

Good communication skills and eagerness to learn

Basic understanding of Linux/Windows operating systems

Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively as part of a team

Exposure to scripting languages (Bash, PowerShell, Python)

Understanding of backup/recovery concepts

Familiarity with monitoring tools

Knowledge of version control (Git)
