The New Mexico Behavioral Health Institute (NMBHI) is the state's only public operated psychiatric hospital, providing compassionate, patient-centered care for individuals with complex behavioral health needs. Our multidisciplinary team offers acute inpatient treatment, rehabilitation services, and coordinated care aimed at ensuring successful transitions back into the community. The Forensic Division is dedicated to delivering evidence-based therapeutic services, comprehensive discharge planning, and supportive case management for our patients.

This position exist to provide high-quality therapeutic services to individuals experiencing acute and chronic emotional, behavioral, and psychiatric conditions. The role is critical in ensuring patients receive the clinical interventions they need to stabilize, and successfully reintegrate into the community. Therapists at NMBHI are key contributors in delivering trauma informed, person centered care that addresses the whole person.
How does it get done?
Conduct psycho-social assessments and develop person centered treatment plans.
Provide individual and group psychotherapy to adults with acute or chronic mental illness.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary team including psychiatrists, nurses, social workers, and rehabilitation specialists.
Participate in treatment team meetings and contribute clinical insight to care planning.
Engage in crisis intervention and deescalation support as needed.
Monitor patient progress and adjust interventions accordingly.
Maintain clinical documentation in compliance with hospital and regulatory standards.

Patient's admitted into the New Mexico Behavioral Health Institute Forensic Division for purposes of evaluation and or treatment.
Ideal Candidate
Patient's admitted into the New Mexico Behavioral Health Institute Forensic Division for purposes of evaluation and or treatment.
Minimum Qualification
Licensure in New Mexico as an LMSW, LISW, LMHC, LMFT, LPCC, LCSW, or LPAT and one (1) year of experience as it pertains to the essential duties and responsibilities of the classification. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field above licensure requirements and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling one (1) year may substitute for the required experience.
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid Drivers License.
Must obtain a Defensive Driving Certificate
1. SAFETY SENSITIVE POSITIONS--This position ls designated as safely sensitive. Employment Is subject to pre-employment and random testing. In accordance with all terms and conditions of federal and state law, rules, and regulations in relation to alcohol and/or drug testing. Employment ls subject to nationwide criminal background checks and is conditional pending results.
2. CRIMINAL RECORDS BACKGROUND CHECK-Must successfully complete post offer pre-employment criminal records background check. Employment is conditional pending the results of criminal records background checks. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license. Successful completion of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
Working Conditions
Position will perform work directly on the unit with patients as well as in an office setting with extensive computer and phone usage and exposure to Visual Video Display Terminal.

Compensation
