About the Opportunity

Every year, EMR recycles millions of tonnes of metal and materials, helping reduce carbon emissions, protect natural resources and create a more sustainable future. Behind every tonne processed is a complex network of shredders, conveyors, separation equipment, process plant and industrial systems. As we continue to invest in our operations across the UK, we're looking for a Project Engineer to help deliver the next generation of engineering projects that keep our business moving.

If you're looking for a role where you'll see your ideas become reality, take ownership of projects and develop your career within a growing engineering team, we'd love to hear from you. You'll join our Central Engineering Team, supporting the delivery of capital projects across our UK operations. Working alongside experienced engineers and operational teams, you'll be involved in every stage of the project lifecycle-from developing concepts and layouts through to procurement, installation, commissioning and handover.

No two projects are the same. One week you might be developing a new material handling system, the next supporting the installation of processing equipment or commissioning a plant upgrade that improves safety, reliability and performance.

As your experience grows, you'll take on increasing responsibility, managing your own projects and becoming a trusted technical lead within the business.

What you will be doing

Deliver engineering projects from concept through to commissioning.

Develop process layouts, equipment specifications and technical documentation.

Produce and review 2D and 3D CAD layouts.

Work with suppliers to specify, procure and deliver new equipment.

Support factory acceptance testing, site installation and commissioning activities.

Coordinate contractors and suppliers to ensure projects are delivered safely and efficiently.

About You

We're interested in engineers who enjoy solving practical problems and delivering real engineering solutions.

Experience delivering engineering or capital projects.

Mechanical engineering knowledge, with an understanding of industrial plant and equipment.

Experience using 2D or 3D CAD software.

Strong communication and organisational skills.

A practical, hands-on approach with a willingness to travel to sites across the UK when required

You'll ideally have experience in one or more of the following industries: recycling and resource recovery, materials handling, quarrying and aggregates, mining and minerals processing, heavy manufacturing, steel and metals, food, chemical or other process industries

Who we are:

Our purpose is to create a future where the materials we use don’t need to be extracted from the planet.’

At EMR, we give new life to unwanted materials. Every year, we recycle 10 million tonnes of metals and plastics, saving 19 million tonnes of carbon from entering the Earth’s atmosphere, diverting waste from landfill and protecting resources and habitats.

We couldn’t do any of this without our team members. In return for all they do, we do everything we can to create an environment of belonging, value, support and growth.

We’re proud to have achieved Great Place To Work status, but it’s about so much more than a badge. It’s about being recognised by our people for the continuous work we do to do better for them:

‘The people who work here are from varied backgrounds and have a variety of beliefs, all of which are accepted and respected.’

‘I’m encouraged to keep a healthy work-life balance so that I can be performing at my best.’

‘I’ve been supported every step of the way in my career progression.’

‘‘EMR offers a fantastic and inclusive environment; collaboration across the whole business, humility and hard work.’

We couldn’t do any of this without our team members. In return for all they do, we do everything we can to create an environment of belonging, value, support and growth, underpinned by our Company values of We Care and We Do.
