Position Overview:
We are currently seeking a Principal Consultant – Market Study , reporting directly to Head of Genesis India to join our Genesis team based in Mumbai.
Key Responsibilities:
Identify the major duties and tasks accomplished by this position. For each duty, identify if it is an E - essential function or N – non-essential function of the job.
Main accountabilities:
Lead global and regional market overview studies covering macroeconomic trends, policy influences, trade flows and structural industry shifts
Identify and analyze demand drivers and key end-use sectors across domestic and export markets
Define and evaluate target domestic and international markets including trade competitiveness and logistics positioning
Develop supply–demand outlooks and price forecasts up to 2050 (or project life), incorporating multiple scenarios
Conduct netback price analysis to plant gate including freight, duties, distribution margins and parity pricing
Map key regional and international competitors including capacity, cost position, feedstock advantage and integration level
Benchmark client configuration against competing producers (cost competitiveness and margin resilience)
Assess market absorption for different plant capacities and ramp-up scenarios
Recommend optimal plant capacity and/or phased development strategy based on demand outlook and competitive positioning
Prepare bankable market reports suitable for Clients, their senior decision makers, and investors
Support technical due diligence for acquisitions and project financing from market insights and perspectives
Conduct primary research including industry interviews and stakeholder consultations
Develop financial model inputs (price decks, volume ramp-up, margin assumptions)
Identify key market risks and sensitivity drivers affecting project viability (SWOT/ PESTEL)
Present findings to senior stakeholders and defend assumptions under scrutiny
Support proposal preparation and business development initiatives
Mentor junior analysts and develop internal market intelligence frameworks
Track emerging sectors including low-carbon fuels, specialty chemicals and circular economy materials
Required Skills and Experience:

Languages: English (Fluent)
Main skills:
Proven experience in:
Market assessment for hydrocarbons, chemicals, fertilizers or petrochemicals (Minimum three (3) Projects in at least one (1) of the sectors);
Preparation of feasibility study (FS) and Detailed Project Report (DPR) – Market Study/ Assessment Chapters;
Long-term demand-supply modelling (10–25-year horizon; exposure to 2050 outlook preferred)
Developing forecasts and tools in-house for market study and assessment;
Preparation of presentations/ pitch-decks/ market overview/ market insights/ due diligence for Clients across sectors;
Experience in consulting firms, EPC advisory practices, corporate strategy groups or market intelligence organizations.
Exposure to global trade flows and export market evaluation.
Experience presenting to Clients’ senior management, investors, lenders.
Technical & Analytical Competencies:
Demand forecasting and scenario modelling from market perspectives
Long-term supply – demand outlook development
Commodity price forecasting methodologies
Netback price modelling to plant gate
Capacity optimization and phased development assessment – from market perspective
Competition cost benchmarking
Strong Excel-based financial and market modelling skills
Knowledge of industry databases (ICIS, Argus, CRU, IHS, etc.)
Ideal Candidate Profile:
Strategic thinker with strong quantitative rigor
Able to defend long-term forecasts under scrutiny – internally and externally
Comfortable working across technical and financial domains
Understands project lifecycle from concept to financing
Capable of converting fragmented global data into actionable investment insights
Qualifications & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering / Mechanical Engineering
MBA (Finance / Strategy / Marketing) preferred
Financial modelling certification desirable
Experience - 12–15 Years Required
