Job Description:
Under direct supervision, performs structural analyses and designs for steel and concrete bridges, culverts and retaining walls to meet client project requirements.
Assists in the development of project models, drawings, reports, cost estimates, and specifications.
Reviews shop drawings, respond to RFI's, and construction support under supervisions of senior engineer.
Performs bridge inspections.
Prepares load rating and/or bridge inspection reports.
Coordinates design with other engineering disciplines as needed.
Applies firm policies and practices on all designs.
Assists with technical papers and designs for publishing technical journals.
Performs other duties as required.
May create or work with a team to create a poster or other presentation material for a conference.
Domestic and/or international travel may be required based on project demands.
Skills & Abilities:
Knowledge of computer assisted design and drafting (CADD) software and practices.
Knowledge of engineer principles of design.
Knowledge of bridge inspection procedures.
Expert Knowledge of Microsoft business software (excel, word, etc.).
Good written and verbal communications skills.
Intermediate knowledge of engineering analysis/design software.
Knowledge of IDOT Bridge Manual, IDOT Culvert Manual, and AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Civil, Architectural or Structural Engineering or related discipline. 1 year of related experience. Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands. Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree. Preferred Qualifications:
Basic understanding of bridge design principles.
Familiarity with IDOT standards and procedures.
Familiarity with AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications.
Ability to efficiently use MicroStation.
Experience with design software is a plus (MDX, OpenBridge, Leap Steel, Leap Concrete, CSI Bridge, AASHTOWare, LPile, etc.)
Compensation
This Software Engineer role pays $75k-$124k/yr. Within typical range for software engineer roles in United States.
