Position Summary

VERSA Integrated Solutions is seeking a highly experienced Database Architect to design and govern enterprise database architectures supporting Federal Government customers. The Database Architect is responsible for developing enterprise database strategies, defining data storage architectures, establishing database standards, and ensuring database environments are scalable, secure, and aligned with business and mission objectives.

This role serves as the senior technical authority for database design and modernization initiatives, collaborating with Enterprise Architects, Data Architects, Cloud Architects, and development teams throughout the system development lifecycle.

Position Objectives

The Database Architect will:

Design enterprise database architectures. Develop logical and physical database models. Establish database standards and governance. Guide cloud database modernization. Ensure scalability, performance, and resiliency. Support AI, analytics, and business intelligence initiatives.

Major Duties & Responsibilities

Enterprise Database Architecture

Design logical, conceptual, and physical database models. Develop enterprise database standards. Evaluate emerging database technologies. Create architecture roadmaps supporting modernization initiatives. Ensure interoperability across enterprise systems.

Cloud Database Modernization

Architect solutions utilizing:

Azure SQL Azure Cosmos DB Azure Database Services Amazon Aurora Amazon RDS PostgreSQL SQL Server Oracle Snowflake

Develop migration strategies from legacy on-premises databases to cloud-native platforms.

Database Governance

Establish database design standards. Define naming conventions. Develop metadata strategies. Implement data retention policies. Guide database lifecycle management. Support Federal data governance initiatives.

Performance & Availability

Architect highly available database environments. Design replication strategies. Support disaster recovery planning. Define capacity planning methodologies. Optimize enterprise database performance.

Security Architecture

Implement database security strategies including:

Encryption at rest and in transit Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) Auditing Data masking STIG compliance Zero Trust principles

Technical Leadership

Provide architectural leadership to:

Database Administrators Software Developers Cloud Engineers Data Engineers Enterprise Architects Systems Engineers

Review solution designs, mentor technical staff, and establish architectural best practices.

Required Qualifications

Extensive enterprise database architecture experience. Strong communication and leadership skills. Expertise in cloud database modernization. Experience supporting large Federal IT environments. Ability to lead architecture review boards and technical governance activities.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related discipline.

Master's degree preferred.

Desired Federal Experience

Experience designing enterprise database solutions supporting agencies such as NIH, CMS, Census Bureau, Department of Commerce, DHS, DoD, or other Federal organizations is strongly preferred.

Security Clearance

Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust or higher clearance, depending on customer requirements.

Work Environment

Hybrid or onsite within the Washington, DC Metro Area, providing architectural leadership for enterprise modernization initiatives and collaborating with executive leadership, engineering teams, and federal stakeholders.

Pay: $120,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year
