HDB Tester (Software Test Engineer (Functional & Automation Testing)

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Software Test Engineer to join our project team in delivering high-quality software solutions through comprehensive functional and automation testing. This role will initially focus on functional, system, and regression testing for enterprise applications, with opportunities to progressively build and enhance automation testing capabilities.

The successful candidate will work closely with business users, project teams, and technical stakeholders to ensure software quality throughout the testing lifecycle while maintaining strong governance, documentation, and compliance standards.

Key Responsibilities

Functional Testing

Design, develop and execute functional, system, integration and regression test cases based on business and technical requirements.

Review business requirements and functional specifications to identify test scenarios and ensure complete test coverage.

Prepare and maintain comprehensive test plans, test cases, test scripts and test execution reports.

Create, prepare and manage test data required for testing activities.

Execute manual testing and accurately document test evidence in accordance with organisational quality standards.

Identify, log, track and verify software defects using defect management tools.

Perform root cause analysis and work closely with developers and business stakeholders to resolve issues.

Validate defect fixes and perform regression testing to ensure system stability.

Communicate testing progress, quality metrics, risks and issues to project stakeholders.

Maintain end-to-end traceability between requirements, test cases and test results.

Contribute to reusable regression test suites to support future automation initiatives.

Automation Testing

Design, develop and maintain automated test scripts for critical business processes.

Develop reusable automation components and scalable automation frameworks.

Execute automated regression test suites and analyse execution results.

Support the migration of automation assets to enterprise or cloud-based automation platforms.

Monitor automation coverage, execution stability and testing metrics.

Maintain automation documentation, reusable libraries and best practices.

Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance testing efficiency.

Requirements

Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering or a related discipline.

Minimum 5 years of experience in software testing with strong experience in functional testing.

Experience designing comprehensive test cases from business and system requirements.

Good understanding of Software Testing Life Cycle (STLC) and Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).

Experience in manual testing, system testing, integration testing and regression testing.

Hands-on exposure to automation testing tools such as Tricentis Tosca, Selenium or Playwright .

Working knowledge of SQL for test data preparation and data validation.

Experience with API testing using tools such as Postman or equivalent.

Proficiency in at least one programming or scripting language such as Java, Python, JavaScript or C# .

Experience using defect management tools such as JIRA or Azure DevOps .

Strong analytical, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

Good written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.

Experience preparing testing documentation, execution evidence and quality reports.

Preferred Qualifications

Professional software testing certifications such as ISTQB Foundation , ISTQB Test Automation Engineer , or Tricentis Tosca Certification .

Experience integrating automated testing into CI/CD pipelines.

Knowledge of cloud-based testing environments.

Experience with Git or other version control systems.

Familiarity with Agile or Scrum software development methodologies.

Exposure to performance testing concepts and tools.

Experience working on government, public sector or other highly regulated technology projects will be advantageous.
