What’s the role?

We are seeking an exceptional Chief Engineer – Transaction Intelligence Platform to define and lead the architecture of one of Westpac’s most strategically important data platforms. This is a significant opportunity to operate at enterprise scale, shaping how transaction data is modelled, governed, consumed and transformed into AI-powered customer and business outcomes.

As Chief Engineer, you will own the technical vision and architectural direction of Westpac’s Transaction Intelligence Platform, establishing a trusted enterprise-wide foundation for transaction data that enables advanced analytics, customer intelligence, AI/ML solutions and future digital experiences.

Core Responsibilities include:

Define and own the technology vision, architecture and engineering strategy for the platform.

Lead real-time ingestion, enrichment and API-enabled data services on Google Cloud.

Establish and govern a consistent enterprise transaction data model.

Drive data quality, reconciliation, observability and reliability standards.

Enable AI, machine learning (ML), analytics and customer-facing capabilities through trusted data products.

Provide enterprise-wide technical leadership and engineering direction.

What do I need?

To be successful you should have the below skills and experience:

Extensive experience designing and operating large-scale enterprise data platforms and distributed systems.

Deep expertise in event-driven architecture and real-time data processing.

Strong experience with enterprise data modelling, governance frameworks and data quality disciplines.

Advanced knowledge of modern cloud ecosystems, ideally Google Cloud.

Proven ability to enable production-grade AI and ML platforms.

Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence at executive level.
