Position Summary (Purpose of Job)
The Principal Portfolio Manager sets strategic direction and enables execution for complex, high-impact portfolios, ensuring alignment with enterprise strategy, business priorities, and regulatory expectations. Operating as a senior individual contributor, this role partners with executive and senior leaders to guide investment planning, governance, and prioritization decisions across a dynamic portfolio.
In an increasingly digital and AI-enabled environment, this role demonstrates learning agility, intellectual curiosity, and balanced risk tolerance, leveraging AI, automation, and digital tools to enhance insight generation, scenario planning, and decision-making. The role serves as a trusted advisor, translating complex portfolio data into actionable insights and driving measurable business outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Set and refine portfolio direction and investment frameworks aligned to enterprise strategy and technology roadmaps.
Lead governance, prioritization, and decision frameworks that promote transparency, compliance, and execution effectiveness.
Partner with senior leaders to prioritize initiatives, allocate resources, and optimize portfolio investment mix.
Conduct portfolio analysis, scenario planning, and trade-off assessments to inform decisions.
Monitor portfolio health including performance, risks, dependencies, and constraints; mitigate systemic risks.
Lead portfolio reviews and provide data-driven recommendations on investments and resource allocation.
Leverage AI, automation, and digital tools to enhance forecasting, reporting, and real-time insights.
Translate complex data into actionable executive insights to support decision-making.
Drive adoption of best practices and continuous improvement in portfolio management.
Minimum Job Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities)
Advanced expertise in portfolio management, investment prioritization, and governance frameworks.
Exceptional communication and executive presentation skills, with the ability to distill complex portfolio data into clear, actionable insights and influence decision-making at the senior executive level.
Expert level knowledge of project management best practices, and agile development processes
Strong capability in risk analysis, scenario planning, and trade-off decision-making.
Experience aligning investments to strategic objectives and delivering measurable outcomes.
Advanced analytical skills with portfolio visualization and decision-support tools.
Ability to influence without authority in matrixed environments.
Learning agility, curiosity, and adaptability in evolving technology environments.
Comfort with ambiguity and risk in complex, changing conditions.
Understanding of AI, automation, and digital transformation impacts on portfolio strategy.
Business Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Business, IT, Finance, or related field; advanced degree preferred.
12+ years of experience in portfolio management, program leadership, or enterprise strategy.
Experience managing enterprise portfolios with governance, investment planning, and risk management.
Experience supporting large-scale technology or transformation portfolios.
Experience developing executive level communications.
