Intercompany Lead

What You'll Do:

Avalara is seeking an Intercompany Accounting Lead to join our global accounting team. We're looking for an AI first professional, equal parts technologist and accountant, who doesn't just use automation but builds it, bringing deep expertise in US GAAP intercompany accounting, multi-currency transactions, and FX impact analysis. The Lead will ensure the accuracy and integrity of intercompany balances, journal entries, and consolidated reporting across our global entity structure. Reporting to the Global Accounting Manager, the Lead will also support cross-functional collaboration and AI-driven process improvement, acting as a JE preparer or approver as needed.

What Your Responsibilities Will Be:

Prepare and review intercompany transactions between entities, ensuring accuracy, proper offsetting and settlement of balances, and compliance with internal policies and global regulations.

Analyze the FX impact of multi-currency journal entries as they clear through the realized FX P&L line and flow into the consolidated financial statements.

Support monthly intercompany balance sheet reconciliations with global subsidiaries to resolve discrepancies and maintain reporting integrity.

Use AI and automation to streamline these workflows and strengthen reconciliations while validating outputs, monitoring for exceptions, and ensuring processes meet accounting standards.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams and external auditors on intercompany inquiries, and communicate findings clearly in writing and verbally, including audit-ready, evidence-supported summaries.

What You'll Need to be Successful:

Chartered Accountant, CPA, or equivalent qualification

5+ years of relevant accounting experience, including public company experience and hands-on AI build experience

Strong foundational knowledge of US GAAP intercompany accounting, including elimination entries, FX clearing, and consolidation impacts (without needing to be a consolidations specialist)

NetSuite OneWorld expert, with hands-on experience across intercompany, multi-entity, and multi-currency functionality

Experience applying AI and automation to accounting workflows, with a track record of implementing or scaling AI-driven improvements, using tools such as OpenAI, Microsoft Copilot Studio, Glean, or Claude. Must be able to give specific examples of using AI daily to improve accounting processes (e.g., automating reconciliations and cost plus calculations, drafting and validating JE support, flagging exceptions, and generating audit-ready summaries).

Advanced Excel, including Power Query and Power Pivot, to analyze, calculate, and validate high-volume transactional data.
