Job Description

We are searching for the best talent for Law Clerk to join our Global Legal Organization located in Toronto, Ontario.

The Law Clerk position is integral to accomplishing the strategic legal priorities of Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine in Canada by providing proactive and professional support to the Global Legal Organization and its business partners. This includes supporting the Canadian business on legal issues related to compliance and general commercial matters, as well as drafting and negotiating contracts, under the direction of the VP Law. The Global Legal Organization is a lively and dynamic department within a larger multinational organization. Managing diverse tasks, collaborating closely with different stakeholders, and working under varying timelines are expected of this role.

Key Responsibilities

Drafting contracts and negotiating with other parties

Creating and managing template agreements and instructing colleagues regarding their effective use

Supporting escalations from procurement contracting group

Managing internal intranet/filing databases, for contracts and other legal documents

Supporting litigation files / legal hold notices

Supporting internal and external compliance audits

Conducting and analyzing legal research and making recommendations with respect to, and resolving, complex legal issues

Developing and improving standard procedures and processes

Supporting the Health Care Compliance (HCC) Officer in working with the business on HCC contracts and providing support on matters that require HCC oversight

Working closely with the VP law on special projects

Other duties as reasonably required to support the Legal Organization

Upholding Johnson & Johnson's Credo and applying ethical business practices in all interactions

Qualifications

Relevant Certificate or Diploma from a recognized Post-secondary College or Institute (Paralegal Licence from the Law Society of Upper Canada or Completion of Law Clerk program accredited by The Institute of Law Clerks of Ontario, or equivalent)

4 years of related experience (law firm, in-house legal department or equivalent)

Minimum of 4 years' experience drafting and revising contracts

Basic contract negotiating skills

Detail and process oriented

Demonstrated excellent judgment

Demonstrated ability to effectively work independently with limited supervision

Demonstrated abilities to work in a fast-paced environment, meet exacting timelines, prioritize work relative to business context, and handle multiple demands simultaneously

Highly computer literate, with advanced skills in MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and different legal and contracts databases

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written) and ability to work with a wide range of people with varying degrees of experience dealing with legal issues

Bilingualism in English and French would be an asset
