Position Overview:

The Associate Tax Manager, Financial Reporting & Tax responsible for the tax work required for clients and work closely with Fund Accounting, external tax advisors and auditors. This position will be able to independently research tax issues and make appropriate recommendations and manage staff within the team.

Responsibilities:

Review distribution calculation and allocation factors prepared by Fund Accounting for all types of client Funds including complex structures;

Work collaboratively with Fund Accounting and liaison with assigned clients, external tax advisors and auditors on the distribution calculation review process;

Attend external audit meetings and provide responses to tax related queries;

Initiate and review distribution related processes such as Suspended Capital Loss and Stop Loss, etc;

Preparation and filing Trust and Corporation income tax returns and relevant tax information forms for assigned clients in a timely and accurate manner;

Preparation of HST returns for assigned funds in a timely and accurate manner;

Research and analyze in detail, the accounting and tax impact of corporate actions (including complex corporate actions) affecting Funds and prepare the recommended tax treatment;

Manage, train and review the work of Analysts;

Implement process improvements and procedural enhancements to create efficiency and enhance controls of the Distribution process;

Review Income Trust Allocations, Notional Distributions & maintain tax related Security Master data fields for all funds and ensure accurate and timely upload to Investone by IFS Central Ops;

Handling and drafting responses to tax correspondence for assigned clients including reassessment notices and audits;

Assist Tax Manager with research on regulatory changes and trust issues as required, providing analysis and recommendation; and

Participate in automation and special projects as required.

Qualifications:

University degree in Business/Accounting and have or working towards a professional accounting designation

Strong working knowledge of Canadian as it impacts investment funds;

Fund Accounting experience in the investment fund industry is required;

Excellent written and oral communication skills;

Excellent time management skills and ability to work under tight timelines;

Strong PC skills; MS Office and TaxPrep

Ability to work with minimal supervision; and

High degree of commitment to quality work and accuracy.

Job Specific Competencies:

- The salary band for this position ranges between $84,000 - $126,000.

Individual pay is determined by factors such as job-related skills, market conditions, relevant experience, education, training, and internal equity.
