About the role

Who we are

We're IAG Loyalty - one organisation with two ambitious, growing divisions across Loyalty and Holidays. Each has its own goals, strategy and team, but together we're united by a shared vision to create a more rewarding world of travel and experiences.

Our Loyalty division is home to Avios, the global loyalty currency, enabling millions of members to collect and spend rewards across travel, retail and financial services.

We're on an exciting journey of growth and transformation – we're going places.

The opportunity ✨

We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer to help shape one of the most critical platforms within IAG Loyalty.

You'll join the team responsible for our Pricing Service - the engine that powers reward pricing across multiple airlines, partners, products and propositions. Every day, millions of customers rely on this service to redeem their Avios seamlessly, making this a genuinely high-impact engineering role.

This is an opportunity to build scalable cloud-native solutions using Java, Spring Boot and AWS, influence technical direction, mentor fellow engineers and contribute to the future evolution of our platform.

What you'll be doing

You'll own the delivery of backend features from design through to production, developing resilient, scalable services that support millions of redemption requests across our global loyalty ecosystem.

Working within a collaborative product engineering team, you'll build modern microservices using Java Spring Boot, AWS and Infrastructure as Code, while ensuring high standards of testing, security and operational excellence.

You'll contribute to architectural discussions, improve engineering practices, mentor junior developers through code reviews and pair programming, and help the team continuously improve how we build and deliver software.

Working closely with Product Managers, engineers and partner teams across British Airways, Iberia, Aer Lingus and the wider IAG group, you'll help translate business priorities into high-quality technical solutions that improve customer experience and commercial performance.

As part of a shared on-call rota, you'll also help support a critical customer-facing service, ensuring reliability and rapid incident resolution.

What we need from you

Strong experience developing backend applications using Java, Spring Boot and AWS

Experience building cloud-native solutions and managing infrastructure with Terraform

Knowledge of CI/CD, automated testing and engineering best practices

Ability to build secure, scalable APIs and troubleshoot complex distributed systems

Passion for writing clean, high-quality code with a focus on performance and reliability

Strong communication and collaboration skills, with experience mentoring other engineers

Comfortable working in Agile teams and embracing continuous improvement

Experience with AI-assisted development tools is desirable

Familiarity with observability tools (e.g. DataDog or SonarCloud), business rules engines, or loyalty and travel platforms would be an advantage

We might not be right for you if:

You only want to focus on your own work; we're a collaborative, high-performing team who support one another.

You value perfection over fast learning and continuous delivery.

You're looking to design solutions but not own their implementation through to production.

If you think you have what it takes but don't meet every requirement, we'd still love to hear from you.

The Blend

This role is part of our Loyalty Division and is based from our London office.

We call our hybrid working approach The Blend - giving you the flexibility to choose where you do your best work whilst staying connected with your team. Typically, you'll spend at least two days each week in the office, with flexibility to work from home for the remainder.

Diversity and Inclusion

Our vision is to create a more rewarding world of travel and experiences. Delivering that requires diverse thinking and inclusive leadership.

We are committed to building a workplace where people feel they belong and are valued for their perspective. Inclusion drives better decisions, stronger performance and more innovative outcomes.

We actively encourage applications from people with different experiences and backgrounds, and are committed to ensuring our recruitment process is fair, inclusive and accessible.
