We are seeking a dynamic Field Service Engineer – 4‑Stroke to join our Mechanical Field Services Resources team to manage complex field service activities related to Wärtsilä 4‑stroke engines and associated systems.

You will work primarily in the field, directly interfacing with customers, performing advanced service activities such as commissioning, troubleshooting, overhauls, and maintenance of Wärtsilä products.

The preferred location for this position is in Genova (Italy). When not on assignment, remote working is possible, supporting flexibility and work‑life balance.

Your role and responsibilities

As Service Engineer, 4 stroke, your work will focus on these responsibilities:

Execute planned maintenance and repair activities on Wärtsilä OEM 4‑stroke engines and their auxiliaries

Perform overhauls of engine components on site or on board vessels

Carry out advanced engine troubleshooting to identify root causes of mechanical failures

Inspect completed work to ensure repairs meet Wärtsilä quality standards

Check, adjust, and test relevant systems, including auxiliary systems

Perform commissioning and trial runs of Wärtsilä equipment

Participate actively in failure investigations and troubleshooting processes

Prepare accurate and timely service reports, technical documentation, and travel expense reports in line with Wärtsilä requirements

Identify failures, perform adjustments, and support testing and trial operations

Collect, organize, and submit time and expense reports to administrative personnel as required

Work in full compliance with Wärtsilä guidelines, including Quality, Environment, Health & Safety (QEHS) requirements

To be successful in this role, we expect you to have:

Technical high school diploma in mechanics and/or Bachelor’s degree in Marine Engineering or Mechanical Engineering

Proven ability to overhaul engine components on site or on board

Previous experience with planned maintenance and repair of Wärtsilä OEM engines and auxiliaries is a strong advantage

Solid experience in engine troubleshooting, routine maintenance, and component investigations

Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills

Excellent communication skills to interact effectively with customers and internal teams

High motivation to learn, develop, and grow professionally

Team‑oriented mindset with a collaborative approach

Ability to perform effectively in dynamic and changing environments

Good knowledge of English and Italian

Willingness and motivation to travel extensively (minimum 80% of the year), including international assignments

The annual salary range for this role is 28.380 EUR – 38.560 EUR in accordance with the salary provisions in the applicable National Collective Labor Agreement for workers in the metalworking and plant installation industry (CCNL Metalmeccanico).
