About the Opportunity
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Assistant Property Accountant to join our growing hospitality and property management team. This position is designed as a development role, with the successful candidate receiving hands-on training and mentorship to transition into the Property Accountant position within approximately 6 to 12 months.
This is an excellent opportunity for an accounting professional looking to grow their career and gain experience in hotel and commercial property accounting.
Key Responsibilities
Assist with daily accounting functions and financial reporting
Process accounts payable and accounts receivable
Reconcile bank accounts, credit card statements, and general ledger accounts
Assist with month-end, year-end closing procedures and audits
Prepare and analyze monthly food and beverage cost reports, including inventory reconciliation, cost of sales, and variance analysis.
Support payroll processing and related reconciliations
Prepare journal entries and maintain accurate accounting records
Assist in budget preparation and financial analysis
Monitor cash flow and support forecasting activities
Maintain vendor and tenant records
Support audit and compliance requirements
Prepare reports and analyses as requested by management
Learn and assume increasing responsibility for all aspects of the Property Accountant role
Qualifications
Diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration
1-3 years of accounting or bookkeeping experience preferred
Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting
Experience with accounting software (Sage) and Microsoft Excel
Excellent organizational and time-management skills
Strong attention to detail and accuracy
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Hospitality, property management, or commercial accounting experience is considered an asset
Experience with food and beverage inventory, costing, or hospitality accounting is considered a strong asset.
Must be bondable and able to successfully complete a background check
