About the role
We are looking for a Management Accountant to join the Finance team. This is a hands-on role with ownership of assigned areas of the monthly management accounts, as well as a key part to play in improving finance reporting, controls, and systems.
The role is deliberately broad. It will require someone who is happy to pick up practical month-end tasks when needed, including journal preparation/posting and reconciliations, while also developing into more analytical, business partnering, and systems improvement work. Long term, the role will help develop BOARD to make Finance and the wider business more efficient.
What you will be doing
Preparing accurate monthly management accounts for assigned areas, including P&L and balance sheet.
Preparing and posting journals, supporting month-end tasks, and ensuring outputs are complete, accurate, and delivered on time.
Preparing and maintaining balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring accounts are supported, controlled, and audit-ready.
Supporting budgets, forecasts, and rolling projections with robust assumptions and clear commentary.
Analysing performance trends, variances, cost drivers, and margin movements.
Working closely with operations and commercial teams to understand business performance and support decision making.
Supporting stock, WIP, inventory reporting, year-end audit, and statutory requirements.
Reviewing, following, and improving financial processes and controls where needed.
Supporting and, over time, helping to develop BOARD reporting/planning functionality to improve efficiency across Finance and the wider business.
What good looks like
Outputs are accurate, complete, well-structured, and delivered on time without prompting.
The person is comfortable working at different levels, from detailed journal/reconciliation work through to analysis, commentary, and process improvement.
Variances are understood, explained clearly, and linked to operational or commercial drivers.
Issues are identified early, communicated clearly, and escalated with proposed solutions.
Processes and controls are followed consistently and improved where opportunities are identified.
What we are looking for
A can do attitude who is a team player and willing to be their authentic self in the workplace.
Finance experience, ideally in a manufacturing, engineering, or product-based environment.
Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and confidence working to deadlines.
Good Excel capability and confidence working with finance systems; ERP/MRP experience would be beneficial.
Interest in systems, reporting, and process improvement. BOARD experience would be beneficial, but is not essential if the person has the aptitude to learn.
Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with finance and non-finance stakeholders.
A proactive, curious approach with the confidence to challenge, investigate, and take ownership of assigned areas.
Part-qualified or fully qualified CIMA/ACCA would be preferred, although relevant experience will also be valued.
Opportunity
This is a good opportunity for someone who wants to develop within a busy finance environment, gain broad exposure across the business, and contribute to the continued strengthening of the Finance team. The role has scope to grow over time, particularly around BOARD, reporting improvements, and making Finance processes more standardized and efficient.
