Lean Engineer

Status: Permanent

Reports to: Lean Site Lead

Position Overview:

The Lean Engineer supports the Lean Site Lead in the identification, development, and execution of lean manufacturing improvements across the plant. This is a practical, floor-based role focused on delivering tangible results, running improvement projects, supporting Kaizen events, collecting and analysing data, and helping to embed lean tools and thinking at team level.

The Lean Engineer will work closely with operators, supervisors, and cross-functional teams, building their own lean capability while contributing to the broader continuous improvement programme.

Key Responsibilities:

Support in planning and executing lean improvement projects across designated areas of the plant.

Participate in and help facilitate Kaizen events, working alongside production teams to identify and eliminate waste.

Apply lean tools including 5S, Value Stream Mapping, Takt Time analysis, Kanban, and standard work to drive measurable improvements.

Collect, analyse, and present data to identify opportunities for improvement and track project progress.

Assist in the development and maintenance of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and visual management systems.

Support the delivery of lean awareness training to operators and team leaders.

Collaborate with production teams to implement and sustain improvements, providing on-the-floor coaching and follow-up.

Document lean projects thoroughly, recording scope, actions, results, and lessons learned.

Assist in tracking and reporting improvement project metrics to the Lean Site Lead and Production Managers.

Contribute to the development of future-state value streams and help teams prioritise improvement actions.

Support production teams to improve flow, reduce inventory, and improve on-time delivery.

Comply with all health, safety, and environmental policies, promoting safe working practices at all times.

Carry out any other duties as required to meet business needs.

Qualifications/Skills:

Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field; equivalent experience will be considered.

Experience in a manufacturing environment; exposure to lean or continuous improvement activities is an advantage.

Lean or Six Sigma qualifications (Yellow Belt or Green Belt) are desirable.

AutoCAD or SolidWorks experience is an advantage.

Practical understanding of lean manufacturing tools and principles.

Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and draw clear conclusions.

Good communication skills - able to engage confidently with operators, team leaders, and cross-functional colleagues.

Organised and methodical, with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

Eager to learn, with a proactive and hands-on approach to problem-solving.

Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel for data analysis and reporting.
