What’s the opportunity?

At Cowal, the way we manage ground conditions across both open pit and underground operations is critical to how we mine safely and efficiently. This Geotechnical Engineer role gives you the opportunity to build your capability across both environments - developing your technical skills while contributing to real operational outcomes.

Working an 8:6 roster, you’ll enjoy a strong balance between site-based experience and time off, while gaining exposure to a diverse range of geotechnical conditions, mining stages and project work across an integrated operation.

Based at our Cowal Operations and reporting to the Superintendent – Geotechnical Engineering, you’ll:

Support safe, stable mining by contributing to ground control, monitoring and geotechnical risk management

Build your technical capability across geotechnical design, analysis and data interpretation in both open pit and underground

Identify risks and support practical solutions that improve safety, performance and operational outcomes

Provide hands-on operational support, including site inspections and collaboration with mining teams

Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen geotechnical systems and processes

Does this sound like you?

Degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Mining Engineering, Geoscience or similar

Around 3+ year’s geotechnical experience within mining

Exposure to open pit and/or underground mining environments

Understanding of ground control, slope stability and geotechnical risk

Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive, team focused approach

Nice to have:

Experience working across both open pit and underground operations

Exposure to geotechnical modelling or monitoring systems
